Just throwing this out as a reference too. most competitors are between 20-40 and the average is 168-179 in that age group for all males. Im up for watching the little guys fight, always exciting. If there is only gonna be 1 division though it would be nice to take the average human weight and use that as a guage ... slightly bigger guys can cut if they want and the little guys can attempt to put a bit on ....

Oh and the only other thing I would point out is that in the last tournament we had like 3 guys from Rochester in the under 155 catagory because of pull outs etc ... and that was only trying to get 8 guys not 16. I may be completely off base but I think there would be more not less competitors if it was raised to 165 or 170.

That's kinda what I'm getting at, 6 of 8 guys were from 2 schools. Might be realistic to up the weight limit to gain more peeps. Again in the 156+ division Jeff gave up at least 50lbs to at least 2 of his 3 fights. There were guys that were 230+ easy and Jeff is 175-180. Now we want 16 guys? Don't think it'll be easy to do unless we up the weight, especially if the goal is to have it purple belt and up.

Being a JJ noob, forgive me for adding to what Stew is saying, but when I found out that the divisions were 155 and under, 156 and up, I was all "wtf..."

I weigh in right now at 166-169 and as a noob it is quite noticeable when a guy has 30, 40, or 50 pounds on me. I still roll, but I would be totally euchered if I weighed 156 and rolled a 220lb practitioner.

I was saying to Stew the other day that I am surpised there aren't 3 catagories, for small, medium and large players.
