Do you grab the belt when you do this or is this a no gi escape?

With the gi, I'll grab the belt and then grab the material on their elbow and pull it in as close to their stomach as possible, then buck up and buck over.

With nogi I'll gable grip the shoulder around my head and get them with the same motion.

White belt advice here so take it with a grain of salt. With TSC I just do my best to not get on my side. If I turn in, I'm gonna get twister rolled. If I turn away, I have my back taken. So I just keep my shoulders flat and use my near leg to stifle. It's not really an escape, more like moving a pawn forward in a chess game when you don't have many other major moves. If I can throw my near leg between their legs, and hook under the far leg I can fight for half guard. If you get your leg over the far leg though, it's bad news. You can get your back taken. Or the guy can still end up getting grapevine to run you through the truck. A down side to my approach is that it will leave you open to an inverted kneebar if your opponent is privy to it. A lotta guys aren't though, so it's generally safe.

Otherwise, the best way to deal with TSC is just to avoid letting a guy settle in and keep shrimping away. My boys Ben and Jeremy are both lighter than me by about 60lbs and they shrimp out 90% of the time when I go for TSC. So I'm guessing that would work best for a white belt.

TSC i don't let them settle and i push their hips away from me. If they cant lay on my face they cant fuck me up. Regular side control, i get the underhook and bridge to the single (people are starting to get hip to it though).

If you're a good wrestler that's good. I'm a lazy JJ player so I prefer the ghost over the single.

I'm not a good wrestler we just drill the shit out of it and I go for it a lot when i roll.

On a side note, a "good wrestler" had to learn somehow and i would imagine it was by drilling the shit out of it and using it competition. I feel like a lot of people who do jiu jitsu (and im not saying you specifically David because i don't know you) create this wrestling vs jiu jitsu barrier. They say well that's wrestling and I'm not a good wrestler. To that i say no its not wrestling its grappling and don't you want to be a good grappler?

Also i love the ghost, it plays well into my head and arm game.

Very true points my man. We drill it too. I just have a very lazy low pressure style of JJ (I gotta work on that) so I like moves that require low effort. And I'm one of those BJJ vs Wrestler guys. Not because there exists a real rift. Just because I can feel the difference when I roll. Wrestlers know one thing: pressure. Their 40% is like my 80%. And that's not a bad thing at all. I wish I had that ability. But for me, turning in for the single and being on bottom vs ghost and ending up on top, I prefer being on top. *pause

I love the Ghost to a D'arce but alot of 10 planet guys hold onto the head so desperately that they won't let it happen or just plain out seeing it coming. What i like doing that I think will work with both TSC and regular side control is to shrimp away and try to get to your side. At this point try to hook the near leg and drag it over to get some form of lock down. At this point whip up and establish the dog fight position and go from there. In side control if you can replace half gaurd and whip up u have several options to escape and get a better position.
