White belt advice here so take it with a grain of salt. With TSC I just do my best to not get on my side. If I turn in, I'm gonna get twister rolled. If I turn away, I have my back taken. So I just keep my shoulders flat and use my near leg to stifle. It's not really an escape, more like moving a pawn forward in a chess game when you don't have many other major moves. If I can throw my near leg between their legs, and hook under the far leg I can fight for half guard. If you get your leg over the far leg though, it's bad news. You can get your back taken. Or the guy can still end up getting grapevine to run you through the truck. A down side to my approach is that it will leave you open to an inverted kneebar if your opponent is privy to it. A lotta guys aren't though, so it's generally safe.
Otherwise, the best way to deal with TSC is just to avoid letting a guy settle in and keep shrimping away. My boys Ben and Jeremy are both lighter than me by about 60lbs and they shrimp out 90% of the time when I go for TSC. So I'm guessing that would work best for a white belt.
