Breaking the Lockdown w/ Rener Gracie

    Very nice. Your thoughts?

Nice! I was just using the twister side pass, or Marcelo pass, but now I'm going to play around with this for a bit.

First of all, I loved this technique. I thought it was definitely one of the better lockdown passes Ive seen. My question.. When he "swings the unit in".. Isnt that sort of setting yourself up for a meathook, carny, flying anything.. Or if his hands are still clasped behind your head.. wouldnt that meathook be turned into rubber guard very quickly? And that isnt be asking in a pretentious way.. I am legitimately asking due to the fact that I dont know all the small details that go into the system like the higher ranks.

    Option to attack

I'm not saying that Rener's moves won't work - they will - but you are right about the bottom player having the option to attack. Notice that when the guy on top swings his leg in, he pulls the guy on bottom to his hips - which is exactly where the guy with the lockdown wants to be. You can attack a lot easier on your hips. Since one leg is trapped underneath the opponent, a carney or a meathook are probably the best options from here for the guy on bottom.

Better yet, why wait for the top player to swing his leg in. If the guy on bottom overhooks his opponent's right arm (the guy in the video does not take the overhook) he can move from the lockdown to the super stomp, and from the super stomp go straight to the meathook or maybe even a gogo plata.

Shigeki can easily go straight from lockdown to the meathook but that's Shigeki.

It's going to give Lockdown users a harder time now (similar to once wrestlers figured out how to ground and pound traditional jitsui guys in the guard/half guard) but it's part of the evolution of the game.

I'm glad they are discussing lockdown. First one is just no hand pass, no need to "move the unit", still works. Second one would need to be spot on technique wise with lots of reps. I have had peeps do this thinking they were doing the full twister pass only to have me end up on top. As soon as they sit that hip I unlock, and clear that inside leg like going to dogfight from perfect doubles(fancy feet). It is really good if he lifts the leg as Rener suggest. I then use my underhook to get to mount or at worst side control. They shoulder pressure turning the head helps make this difficult for the guy on bottom but not impossible. If that shoulder pressure is weak at all, it is pretty high percent.
