I know to some of you, training with black belts is a common occurance, but way up here in the sticks it is a rare treat. It has been several years since my last roll with one. We had a Black belt stop by our gym last week and was gracious enough to roll with some of us. This was some of my observations from that time. We had about 3 rolls of about 15min each.
He was open to 10th Planet techs even though he was from traditional GI background.
He was even shown some "truck" stuff a few days earlier, by another 10th planet warrior, and he was excited about that position. Man 10th planet is really spreading like a virus.
I was mostly focused on putting my lockdown to work on such a high level player, figuring it would point out some strengths and weaknesses. He always came at me knee up. Man Eddie is right, just getting the lockdown is a serious battle. I would just 1/4 clinch and go from there.
When I did get the lockdown I really felt in control, and he even commented, but just getting there was ridiculus!!
This is something new that I was forced into and had never attemped previously- perfect double from 1/4 clinch.
Anybody ever work this?I was able to pull it off a few times as he was knee driving thru. With success on getting up to dog fight instead of getting passed.
Finally, my biggest observation: Normally when rolling against mostly younger jocks my body really takes a beating and my brain is kinda like on cruise control. This roll was the exact opposite. My body was great, but my brain was sore for about 24hrs after. My brain was going 90mph and he was still a step ahead most of the time.
Sick!
