    Lockdown variation

Hey I just wanted to post this variation i have of the lock down. thought some people might wanna try it out. you just have to click on the link.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_x16INYMfM

i feel it gives better control and i quite often get submissions from this though i dunno what it would be actually, it just hurts, its not like a calf crank or anything. you have to have pretty good ankle flexibility and bigger feet is useful. it can also put a bit of strain on the knees but when you strech the opponent out then it is no problem. its a wee bti like the invisible collar in that its just a control but you can tap people out from it. have fun and write up what you all think.

btw apart from twister i havnt really found anything that you can do in normal lockdown that you cant in the variation. theres also a mean modified stomp that i show in the video.

I also have a thing ive been working on from the back that ill try and put up later.

    thanks to tobi and nils

First off, WHY!! what does it do that lock down can't. The lock down stops the guy from swinging his foot into your ass and hidding it. This looks like nothing stopping the guy from swinging his foot in and hiding it. Then you can't even get the lock down back once he does that, just back to regular half.

Yeah. I wouldn't trust my knees to that lockdown. It's twisting your leg the direction that an inside heel hook does...meaning, one false move and your knee is wrecked.

Yeah it looks a little weird, but lets see where it goes you know?

If he gets some comp vids with technique like bobby asked for, then we can see if its got any potential to become anything once the highers get a look at it.

I think i've seen a variation of that at the Renzo Academy in Baltimore, u can use that to apply a crank somewhat but I agree that it does potentially risk some stress on ur own leg. Have u found it effective within ur rolls with teammates?

i showd it to eddie when he was over in stockholm and he liked it. i find it extremly effective against practically anyone ive used it on, and the why is that you have better control, it takes them way longer to ge out, u can control the movement of their leg alot more because you have more points of contact, and it hurts the opponent atleast just to annoy them. the opponent cant kick your foot of as easily as normal lockdown. as far as the knee goes, theres a bit of strain on there but you can just strech your leg right out which relieves it right away, also the difference between this and the heelhook position is that the opponent has control over the ankle etc, here the moment it gets to much your foot slips out easily and the opponent cant twist your foot far enough.im pretty flexible and im pretty small only 67kg like 144 pounds so this maybe something that is especially suitd for me, but even being so small i can control guys over 200 pounds. its not perfect but it really does work.

ill try and get some footage up here, possibly just of rolling in the gym, but the next tournament over here is in november so itll take a while until i get real footage up.

but try it out before you all troll.

    Seems legit.

I will now commence playing around with it next time I roll! That way I too can throw my 2 cents in for having used it myself.

No one is trolling, they are questioning the legimacy of the technique. I am puzzled by your "heel hook" response, as your leg is in the exact position I'd want it in for a heel hook, controling the ankle or not, that position can put major stress on your ACL.

I dont see anything wrong with it. Doesnt seem to be better or worse than the lockdown, just a slight variation. Is there anything you can do with it that you cant do with the lockdown? Would there be any benefit to switch to this variation instead of using the good old lockdown?

EDIT: I see you already answered these questions up above
