Interesting Gracie "debate" on Triangle from (Monkey) Mount

The lastest Gracie techniique clip is rather interesting because they actually present 2 ways to do the Triangle from a mount position that looks like Eddie's "Monkey Mount". Usually the Gracie Academy comes across as a place where there is NO room for debate since all the technniques were created by Helio Gracie and no one can challenge his wisdom -a very Karate way of thinking, btw.

I would expect at Eddie's academy, there's room for, "I prefer to do it this way," whereas at the Gracie academy I picture the attitude being more of, "This is how its done." Of course I wouldn't be surprised if at the Gracie Academy though, the only ones who can put their own spin on the techniques are Rener and Ryron...

    Anyway, here's the vid:

"why stop in chicago"....i thought the debt was interesting since like you said it always seemed to be this is how its done rather then a matter of i do it this way and he does it this way

I think pinning the wrist would be more stable.

I really enjoy their energy in all their videos. Another nice touch is just how quick, fluid and precise their movements are. They have put in some serious numbers.

I'm relieved to see 10th Planet Instructors and students talk about Rener and Ryron in a positive light, it seems sheik nowadays to give them flak. Its true the teaching philosophy's differ from other Jiu Jitsu schools, that goes way back to when Carlos opened up all techniques to everyone and Helio reserved more advanced techniques for the higher belt levels. However as a student of theirs and seeing the advanced curriculum beyond blue belt, this type of "what works for you"/"i prefer to do this" teaching becomes more common. You can see this even in their free Super Hooks lesson where they talk about why they taught mount controls in a certain "this is how its done" way even though there are plenty of variations. They do it to keep people focused and active in a chaotic suprise attack, and its assumed not everyone who learns jitz wants to be a multi-faceted grappler and may just want to be able to protect themselves using the simplest version of the moves.

I feel like those 2 guys are some of the best Jiu Jitsu instructors alive right now. All of the best teachers (whatever their subject) have one thing in common: they are passionate about what they teach. In the Jiu Jitsu world, Ryron and Rener are 2 of the best examples of that.

As far as the technique itself goes, both variations work. I am surprised to hear that they "prefer" one tech over the other; I would think that it depends on the situation and your opponent's arm placement (as well as his insistence on keeping it in a certain position). "Flow with the go" FTW.
