    Countering the Whip Down

I have been focusing on my half guard passing recently, especially passing the lockdown. I am feeling confident with my progress, but I can't seem to do anything about the Whip Down. If anyone can give me some advice on how to prevent/ what to do when the opponent whips down it would be greatly appreciated.

Whats the whip down? Not the same as whip up?
I thought the buttock compressor is for breaking the lockdown.

Did you combine whip-up and lock-down into one word by mistake maybe? I'm not being saccastic, Im kinda new to the system.
    thanks.

Crossface and bicep control and drive your head into his far shoulder. Then address the lockdown. This control defends his underhook with the bicep control and allows your elbows to stop him from getting under you for the whip down.

So, just to be clear, you are saying for the person on top to change the underhook into bicep control when he tries to whip down and then turn the bicep control back into an underhook whenever you unhook the lockdown and begin to pass?

Bicep/ribcage to be exact. He would have to go through your forearm to get the under hook. The crossface hand is on his shoulder with your elbow blocking his neck and jaw from whipping under you. Once he settles twister smash or no-hands pass. I only underhook for the no-hands pass because of the whip down. I found that the crossface bicep control reinforced with my head is the most comfortable place(ive found) to break the lockdown from.

Ill show ya next time I see ya'll. Been wantin to talk to BmC bout it anyway.

So far my answer for the whip down is to position myself lower down my opponent's body. This gives me an opportunity to pressure his top shoulder from a different angle, making it easier to get him on his back again. When he fights for the whip down again I try to time him out and beat him to the Capoeira Pass, forcing him into my evil trap and spiraling towards the Carni/Monoplata game.

But me and Singlet are really the only people here who play the Whip Down at all. I'm interested to see some responses from the Brown and Black Belts.
