just 15 reps of anything, and you notice the difference. I heard Bj Penn would do a move like hundreds of times when he had seen it for the first time. Also: it gets you warm and ready for stretching! I just wish people would be more into drilling. It's like; "Hey, you wanna drill a move?" "Mmm yeeeahh, no..." Well how the fuck are you gonna get good at anything? Really.

Bruce Lee.. Yeah, he said; "I'm not afraid of a man who knows a thousand kicks, I'm afraid of the man that has practiced one kick a thousand times"

"No thanks, I did the move like 3 times after my instructor showed it, I got it down"

Drilling moves at about 50-60% resistance is HUGE. But also live drills are just as important. Dead zones, single day, swamp walking etc...

Drilling just means practice, so practice, practice, practice

I dislike the lay out of most schools, usually a warm up, 3 or 4 techniques and sparring. Problem I find is that you need your drilling partner to be near your level of grappling and size.

I like to spend 45mins drilling and 15 minutes rolling if we have an hour for open gym. By drilling I mean positional stuff. I look at my game objectively and decide what my weakest position is. I then spend every open gym for a month starting from that position with different partners and looking to improve position or submit and then start over. It also helps greatly to drill with instructors when available or to have them watch and give advice otherwise you find yourself just doing the same shit over and over again instead of expanding your game and picking up new techniques...FUCK I need to start drilling again!!!

THe Peterborough Moon is typically 1/2 hour extreme warm-up, 1/2 hour drilling one technique, 1/2 hour drilling another technique, and the last 1/2 hour is sparring.

I try to get in a minimum of an hour of drilling techs every class and then a shit loads of rolls focusing on hitting what we just learned in class in live rolls, Along with what Eddie said about Dead Zones, etc.
