Most "hemp oil" contains no THC or cannabinoids. Thats why you can just buy it legally online. I'm not saying it couldnt have some medical use but any effects you feel from are probably placebo effect. If its homemade then it could have some THC and cannabinoids but if your making it from leaves or stems its doubtful theres enough in it to feel anything.

Cannabis extracts (not hemp) is the name commonly used for the extracts that do contain the active compounds. You cant buy them on the internet but you make your own. THC is very soluble in fats/oils.

I have a lot of experience/knowledge in this area. I can’t really list my credentials here but If you ever want any help/advice send me a pm. One of my friends came back with pretty bad PTSD as well. IME people with psychological issues like PTSD tend to prefer indica dominant strains. In reality nearly every cultivated strain today is a indica/sativa hybrid but landrace strains do still exist. The purple/black strain you mentioned was likely a indica dominant strain, given the color you described, but not necessarily. Remember that dose it very important. Even a strain that is perfectly suited to your condition will likely give undesirable results in too high a dose. Cannabis is a hallucinogen and if you take a large enough dose that becomes obvious. Feeling of anxiety and paranoia are also likely from too high a dose and as you know are the last things you want. Think of it this way, a pipe bowl of really dank weed is like two/three shoots of liquor. Now if you drink regularly that’s might be nothing, but imagine someone who never drinks just slamming those shots. The sudden and unusual intoxication is likely going to make them feel overwhelmed. I guess what I'm saying is, don't just assume that the amounts cannabis is typically used in are right for you. For example a joint, a pipe bowl etc. are thought of as normal amount to smoke but in fact they are way too much for most people just starting out.

Also, and very unfortunately, you can’t read too much into strain names. First off let me tell you as someone who has sold many pounds to clubs, the names get changed to make sells. I don’t like it but I can't tell you how many times they say, Yeah great, I think I'll call it blankety blank OG, or some shit. Also strain names are cool and fun just like the moves in 10th Planet, however even when the strain is being marketed under the actual name given by the breeder, they are typically not very useful in discerning linage or qualities. A good example is "purple". Now at one time up here everyone grew purple based on demand in SoCal (mostly driven by rap songs) So what is "purple" as a strain and what makes cannabis buds purple? To be accurate there is not strain called purple that was crossed with other strains and used to make all the "purples" we have today. Many strains of both sativa and indica can manifest a purple coloration due to one or more causes. Normally in plants purple coloration is associated with pigments called anthocyanin’s. Some cannabis strains are genetically predispositioned to express purple coloration and will do so under most conditions. (Namely indica dominant as they are originally from colder climates than sativa) Many strains are capable of turning purple if exposed to cold weather just like the plants outside during fall. Some “purple” strains are actually sativa dominant and genetically very distinct form the indica dominant strains most people think of as purple. I used to purposely chill my stuff to increases purple coloration and it was not an indica dominate strain. So when we say weed is purple it’s good to know that beyond coloration we might not be saying much. This can make shopping for medical cannabis very difficult.
I just picked the purple thing as one example of the misinformation that is out there on this subject. Like most topics your best bet is to read as much as possible with a skeptical disposition. Try to get close to the source of your medicine. For many sufferers of PTSD having dependable access to clean, legal cannabis is a tremendous quality of life issue. Consider moving to California or Colorado.
so what DO you reccommend for him in colorado then? haha I'm moving there in a few days from now...

It all starts with seeing a doctor. If your primary care physician is willing to recommend cannabis for your condition(s) thats awesome. They will likely know what they need to do in that state but if not this will get them started, http://www.denverrelief.com/blog/wp-...ician-cert.pdf

Most people aren't so lucky to have their regular doctors sign off unless you have some seriously bad illness. In that case you need to find a cannabis friendly doctor. In populous urban areas of colorado you will likely find many ads in the local publications. I would recommend weedmaps,

weedmaps also helps you find club/cooperatives/collectives/dispensaries depending on how your legislation is worded,

LOL, If you ever head through humboldt definitely hit me up. I'd recommend some sort of hand stretching exercise regime to cope with cramping.
