As an interesting side note in the Dog Brothers style: they brought in the Machados back in the early 90s to improve their ground game, and it was quickly discovered that a determined BJJ player with a basic understanding of the Flying Roof could close and tap just about anyone.
That was the biggest eye opener (even more than UFC) that started my Kali instructor on adding the ground game to the curriculum, and the genesis of my own journey with grappling.
I still have the fencing helmets, sticks, and gloves from when my Kali school was open. We used to call is "insanity rules stick fighting"
