Bulletproof coffee is good but expensive. Tastes wonderful with kerry gold unsalted butter and is very filling. However, it takes a bit more time to make and if you're training a lot, you may find that drinking BP coffee instead of eating breakfast will result in low energy levels. I also find a smoother bowel movement ensues after a solid breakfast of some sort (usually eggs with grassfed butter and sea salt). Since Dave's coffee beans are low-toxin, it's good on its own without the butter and MCT oil. But honestly, there are a lot of better tasting coffees, albeit presumably higher in toxins.

I eat a 'bulletproof' diet now. It's essentially paleo with an added emphasis on reducing inflammation and exposure to toxins such as molds. (And some wicked smaht supplementation.) For example, Dave Asprey recommends cooking on low heat to avoid changes in the cooking oil's fats which confuse the body and produce an immune response (inflammation). And as for toxins, he recommends everything from de-molding your home to eating only low-toxin foods.

Sorry if I'm repeating what you've already read/heard...

If you're mostly paleo, 'bulletproof' is the logical next step in optimizing health and performance. It's great marketing on dave's part, too. It basically says "eat low carb, high fat, organic/natural foods fed their natural diets" (the paleo part) AND "reduce exposure to toxins and focus on lowering inflammation... aaaand supplement intelligently (the 'bulletproof' part)."

Intermittent fasting is one of the absolute best things you can do for short term health/mental clarity and for life extension. Dave's version of IF basically involves drinking BP Coffee in the morning.

Mercola's/Ori Hoffmekler's version is even more potent: IF for 16 hours, do a peak 8 workout then immediately consume highly bioavailable proteins (grass fed whey). I do this when I take breaks from BJJ.

But on training days, you may have a hard time maintaining optimal energy levels and alertness. That's just been my experience, your mileage may vary.

Thank you for the great info!

Im going to try this but I train everyday so the reduced energy might not be so great.

Im think of having a kale shake in the morning with the coffee and then around noon starting to eat my normal amounts of food for lunch and supper before training.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but since Bulletproof has got a lot more exposure, I wondered if any more people have been trying this?

I have recently and I think for cognitive performance/hunger, I go for at least 4 hours and sometimes up to 6 without any hunger or drop in mental performance.

What worries me the most is that since fats are the most anabolic macro-nutrient, I do wonder if it will even get used in terms of athletic performance. So maybe a morning workout might promote the fat storage because your body needs a faster burning macro-nutrient and will just go straight for that easy available.

I did intermittent fasting for a while. Quite enjoyed it and it did have good effects. However, it is easy to go too far with it as my girlfriend found out and resulted in her gettin an eating disorder. So, we obviously both stopped it to allow her to recover.

It was good but il never go back to it.

Personally I am glad you bumped this thread. I have never heard of Bulletproof before, and it sounds interesting. I'm uber-familiar with fasting and paleo.
Hopefully some 10P heads can contribute more about the bulletproof lifestyle so we can learn.

I've been thinking about trying it. I can't get Dave Asprey's stuff where I live but I found some single source, wet processed, high altitude stuff.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is what do you do about training in the evening? That would be at the end of the eating window, or even after it depending on when you finish training. Do you eat something after? I've seen Dave Asprey recommends training less with doing Bulletproof IF, which is something that doesn't interest me, so if my performance and progress suffers, maybe it's not for me. I'll try it and see what happens, but am interested to find out how other people have managed with it.
