    Recognizing ranking in other systems

I have a student who asked me if he should be careful where he gets his BJJ belt, because it may not be accepted at other schools. How true is this? Does 10p recognize Gracie? I know Gracie doesn't recognize anyone but their own... Anyways, I asked him if he was going to use the belt to choke someone out or his knowledge and he just smiled at me, lesson learned .

I've seen eddie answer this question before. I believe he said that belts in other systems transfer over to 10th planet, that all I could say.

As far as I understand it, any BJJ belt that comes into the 10P system is ranked one belt lower than the BJJ belt they hold at their other school, at least until that person demostrates teh skill level to be belted under the 10P system.

As far as other school recognizing belt rankings from other schools, it all comes down to performance and capability.
If you roll at a brown belt level, no school is going to be able to just ignore that.

I think eddie honors your belt when you enter the system.

"If you are a legit purple in Bjj then you enter the 10p system as a purple too :-)" -Eddie in an email to me.

But my belt came from 7th degree master sylvio Behring if your a bluebelt under like a gracie garage or something like that it might be different.

Nope, all BJJ ranks transfer over at the same rank with the exception of Black Belts, They come over as browns.

To me, the 10P system is different from other styles. Therefore, in my opinion, you should have to rank up in 10P. You may have blue, purple, or brown belt level shit in BJJ, but you may be a white belt when it comes to the 10P techniques, right? I don't know, probably just talking out of my ass. I'm a blue in Relson Gracie JJ, but I'd also like to earn my blue in the 10P system, hence the reason I made my video a couple week ago.

Makes sense to me, until I can move closer to a moon I'll be a white belt and that's fine with me. I've been a white belt in Jiu Jitsu for almost 10 years. Sounds funny to some people but I started in the army and the only rank that mattered was on my collar not my waist. I know what I know and that's all that matters in the end. If anybody asks me what martial art I'm currently practicing I say 10p, this is my home now and my wife is starting to sip the kool-aid too so as soon as we move, it's on!

I actually agree completely. After experiencing 10thPJJ first hand when I sent to San Fran, it was nearly like a completely different martial art. Being on the cusp of my blue at the moment, no way would I feel as if i deserved a blue in 10thPJJ.

I think if you're a colored belt, and are basically a white belt to the 10P system, I DO think you should complete at your colored level, even though you're a white in 10P.

    Everyone keeps saying it's different?

You clinch instead of grabbing a gi, it has rubber guard lockdown and twister. what else is different?

your armbar escape is exactly the same the d'arce choke doesn't change I can still go knee in belly the same. My back escapes are the same if you mount me I'll still bridge and roll you.

To me everything is grappling and bjj, judo wrestling are just rules super imposed on it that force you to develop different strategies and styles.
