Reverse triangle or whatever it's called

Tonight I was rolling and I ended up slapping a triangle on a couple guys probably about 4 times through the night (Putting the triangle on them when you're in North/South). In all cases it was against guys that are stronger than me and of course way more experienced.

I couldn't get the submission. If I get a normal triangle I am usually in good shape because I have strong legs for my size, and you can pull down the head, etc. With this set up I fell into a few times tonight, I had nothing to grad, other than trying for some lame ankle locks that I suck at, which really ended up being more if a distraction for both of us than anything effective.

I was working from the bottom as usual, and couldn't seem to topple their base to get on top. I tried curling my toes and squeezing my knees and all sorts of shit. I was even grabbing my feet and tightening the triangle up that way while squeezing my legs.

In one instance, we were locked up like that for at least two minutes without exaggerating. I was hoping to gas him out, but in the end it was me who gassed out and I had to abandon the triangle.

In all cases, my partners were telling me they were very close to tapping, but I just couldn't get that last bit of oomph. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I thought for sure I was going to get some submissions with that tonight, but not one. Any suggestions?

I haven't had time to talk to my coach Stew, or his assistants yet, so fire away with some ideas. Thanks.

Pull their arm through across their chin, its just like putting the arm across their body on a normal triangle. I had that same issue a while back and it just takes a lot of "play time" to figure out what works for you and what you feel comfortable doing.

Pull the arm across & sit on his tricep if you're still on top. Instead of pulling down on his head lift up on his body rocking it on top of his head. Sounds crazy & it's a bit of a balancing act. Remember you always have the Kimura on the free arm. If it's from bottom N/S then try using it to sweep & finish from the top.

That's good control though. Good to hear you're not just abandoning it & looking for ways to figure things out.

i try that second cross side bottom triangle alot, but sweaty people rolling no gi seem to slip out alot. I seem to have better luck with it if i wear gi pants with my rash guard. I have tried to do it when they ae in sidecontrol and have had very little luck that way, seems to me that they have to be cross side to do it. But what do I know, I'm not an expert in jui jitsu. maybe guys with longer legs would have an easier time, my legs are short and fat.

If you have short legs and hit this, let me know what variations (if any) you are using please.

I just read on an old sherdog thread that a guy recommended pulling yourself further under your opponent when trying to hit this to get the tap...people were complaining that they couldn't finish this inverted traingle from bottom. Anyone got any other pointers? Looking for any help here I can get.

Have to take a week+ away from classes my Dr. said, so I have time to research this technique this week. He said I could drill just no live rolling and let the steroids kick in for knee inflammation/swelling.

Thanks for the vids and responses and stuff. I am getting the position, just not getting the submission. I will ask about it tomorrow at class.
