    X-Gaurd backup

Hi guys, I'm very new to jiu-jitsu, a few months - absolutely love it.

A few times when rolling bigger guys have pulled out of my new york (I think thats right? > high leg, grabbing it, hugging around the knee pinning the hand to the mat) - I instictly used the high leg to slip into x-gurd and sweep for the leg-lock.

against experienced practitioners is this reliable or is it a bad habit I should be breaking?

    Any feedback is much appreciated

I think if the hand is on the mat and guys are pulling out from the position it means you must develope the proper angle and squeeze in your rubber guard, go to crack head, as hand on the mat is a jackpot which you cannot miss, now if you are using your X guard to sweep them while thy stand back in a front horse stance, i think its good and you must try to pass to Twister side control asap you sweep them.

And if you miss the sweep, higher level guys will pass you guard, so better keep it close and work towards invisible collar.

I have no idea how you're getting to x guard from new york. Hahah. Can you explain a bit better?

I'm in NY with my left leg high, as they pulled out the right foot slips in as the under hook on their left leg, slipping my left hand to under their arm and turning to grab their right leg - I may have the x-guard wrong but it's the best way I could describe it.
