Same discomfort you get when you do calf exercises at the gym. It's not a big deal, and can't do any real damage... I've been told not to do twisters or toe holds/wrist locks which is understandable since I'm a white belt... But a lockdown?

During normal roll time I'm not bothered by the lockdown as I'm used to it but when we do a lockdown series for 2-3 weeks straight , about halfway through the series it starts to hurt a bit. Everyone usually has bruises by the end. Either way tell them to suck it up.

I just tapped two people a few days ago with the Lockdown. I agree that people who are not familiar with it are probably just tapping out of fear because they feel pain and are not sure how bad it will get. I like to explain the mechanics as well and also the theory behind it so that they have an understanding of what I am trying to do with it.

I've gotten taps from just being on mount or Knee on belly, does that mean they are submissions!! Knee on belly hurts like a mo-fo when done right.

Also why no caf slicers ? Don't let them fool you by saying its dangerous like leg locks. Tell them to understand that submission and if it hurts , tap

I agree with all of the above peoples comments… However, I trained at such a school for a small amount of time and was forced to not do the lockdown… talk to your instructor, if its not allowed there, its not allowed. I worked on other game while I was there and left shortly afterword. Best of luck.

Lately, however, I was rolling with one of the senior guys at the gym and when I slapped the lockdown on and shifted his bodyweight with it, he made me stop and said that you cant do it because its a calf crush/slicer.

A couple other guys have also mention that its very painful when I do it, so I am wondering: Am I being a douche and doing something I shouldnt be doing? Or is it a Gracie thing where they dont like new things? Or is it a sign its getting nice and tight and to not be worried by people who freak out about it?

Any thoughts/opinions would be much appreciated
Your boy is just being a sissy. LOL. Lockdown is no more calf slicer than spider guard is a bicep slicer. Yeah it puts pressure on the muscle and can hurt some guys, but it's not a submission. It's starting to seem like guys who aren't used to the lockdown and don't like 10th planet whine about it. Same guys who have no problem going knee on belly. LOL.

Damn dude, when I first started, working lockdown with Sarkis was hell. His lockdown is the tightest I've felt. But after a while, I got used to it and it was no big deal. Well, I thought I was used to it. Then we worked weak side and I had to get used to it all over again.

When I started in May the lockdown left bruises on my shin and where times I tapped because it felt like my calf muscle was being stretched to the point of tearing.
But now it doesn't hurt. You get used to it. Your body will toughen up. Tell them that.

Gracie Barra, seems like the mcdonalds of jujitsu.

That senior guy you were rolling with should be embarrassed. If a gracie didn't invent it then its not jujitsu or its illegal.
