The downside of the JNT is opposed to the Darce is if you lose the leg you lose the submission. I have decent success using my free leg to get my stuck leg out and then trying to recover guard. Especially since you know the guy has a vice and you're ready to try and get your leg out if he dives, it often turns into a scramble in my experience.

So in a really sweaty MMA type scenario I would think a savy guy could escape his leg unless you had it locked up really well.

If you lose the JNT you lose the JNT but you can still get the anaconda with the proper adjustments. And if you feel like you're losing the leg, you can always kick over into mount and get into a monoplata set up.

I love it when the system spreads.

But it also wouldn't bother me if this stays our lil Japanese secret.

Brown probably isn't aware of the jap necktie, but honestly, in his position, I would have went for the darce as well. In a grappling match it's different, but in MMA a lot of people forget about how the vaseline affects your grip on a choke. I could be wrong though; maybe it's no more difficult than a darce.

Considering that he locked the Darce and pulled guard, I'd say he wasn't concerned with grip or loss of position. He would've been better off with the JNT or at least sprawling with the Darce instead of pulling guard.

You have to get to your back before your opponent secures the vice to defend the jnt. i use the Japanese necktie a lot in combinations with darces and north/south chokes with a pretty high success rate. My last mma fight I was threatening with the jnt and switched it to a darce once I was able to fully vice him to his side. If I can get the vice I'll usually dive for the jnt. If its not there u can quickly let go of the leg and hit the darce with some extreme aggression.

In Swicks last two fights he could have got caught with it, Demarcus Johnson had vice grips on him from top half too, all he had to do was dive over. But like Eddie says I guess it's not that we'll known, which is cool with me cause I love getting JNTs.
