    lockdown in tournaments

    Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum and still a white belt in BJJ, but love what I've seen in the 10th Planet system. I've started competing in both gi and no gi tournaments, but I'm by no means an experienced competitor yet, which is why I'm asking this question.

In one of my matches, I got my opponent in the lockdown. The ref immediately told me that I was not allowed to stretch my opponent out. I could maintain the hold, but that was it. I couldn't manipulate his base by extending and retracting here and there to keep him off balance.

Any idea WHY I was warned about this or what the issue may have been?

    Thanks,

    Alan

i have heard about this too in some tournaments here in the U.S. may be doing the same , if you use the lockdown to tap or trap him they will disqualify you ,not sure exactly which tournaments but will look into it .
if the lockdown is banned then they ought to shut down ,and we'll set up our own ''backyard tournaments''

I have heard that because it has the "potential" to cause damage to the leg, that some tourneys will not allow it!

he might have meant no stretch as in no electric chair, some tournaments dont allow white belts to do that. otherwise idk what it could be

i have heard of it being banned in some tourneys, but have never actually been to one where that was the case.

Maybe right but, and an armbar or a kneebar can fuck you up alot worse so doesnt make sense

Depends on the tourney. Some tourneys call it a stalling position and dont allow it. Also, as listed above, sometimes the white belt rules are different. Most Allow it now though due to other schools implementing it into their system

I honestly don't see the lockdown as something dangerous at all. And it's stupid cause it's a grappling tournament, whats the point of competing if you can't use your techniques. They should be more worried about sandbaggers.

I heard today from a often competing purple belt that it was banned in BJJ tournies. Ima still tryiing to verify, however.
