So this may be a local thing, huh?

I'll keep working it in my home club then, so that when/if I make it to a tournament where it's allowed, then it'll be ready. It does seem pretty weak to disallow a variation of halfguard, though. If the guy taps from it, sucks to be him. Most guys won't tap, though.

yeah this is not the first time i hear about the lockdown being banned... some guy posted a video on youtube about how he was DQd because his opponent tapped out to a lockdown.. and they didnt even KNOw what it was... they were calling it a crotch ripper.

but as far as im concerned the lockdown should be okay for grapplers quest...

Carlos, If the video I'm thinking of is the same one, it was an electric chair that got him dq'd. They don't allow crotch ripper moves in some divisions. I've used the electric chair as a sweep at Grappler's Quest and Best of the West tournaments and didn't have a problem.

Perhaps it was an inexperienced ref who might've been thinking it was developing into a kneebar or calf crusher? Shame - IMO the lockdown is a completely valid version of halfguard.

From what I have seen you can use the electric sweep but not the submission. Or just a dick ref.
