My story about how I know about 10pjj. In 2003 thx to Mr youtube I come across Master Eddie vs Royler Gracie video. Since that day I want to learn his stuff I dont know anything about Jiu jitsu never been to JJ school can not find school that teach his style so I move on, Xmas come I got presents from SANTA forgot what year it was either 05,06 got Mastering the ruber guard 3 set dvd watch it millions time no one to practice with forgot about it. August 2012 search on Facebook found Brandon and Tyler woolsey 10th planet jj HB fort lauderdale best day ever, one month later compete at NAGA lost by point, sec month compete at FXG lost by point, go to Coach ZOG seminar awesome!. So share your story how you come across 10th planet JJ thank you.

My brother wanted to do mma so I wanted to learn some things so I could corner him. He showed me 10th Planet and I was hooked because it was soo unorthodox and Ive always wanted to do jiu jitsu. I have no jiu jitsu schools here but I studied the system like a mid term. I joined the Nibiru forum (to have access to the MTS videos), got MTR dvd, The 10th Planet all stars dvd, started asking questions and always got a reply haha. I soon realized I made the right choice to align with 10th planet. Its a family. Like when Gem was in the bad car wreck everyone pulled together to help him out. Then Jon Helton's soldier of a son Davis needed help with his medical condition everyone helped out. Now Conor needs our help and everyone is pulling together. Family is what keeps me here besides the fact everyone in the system is ego free and open minded. I had very few people to roll with when I started but I got my reps in, first in my mind then on the mat. I trained off and on but still studied the terminology every single day. 2 years later my homie opened up a mma program at a local boxing gym here and he has gracie barra guys teaching jiu jitsu so now I have real jiu jitsu guys to train with and I got to attend Eddies seminar over at 10th Planet sherman where he promoted me to blue belt. I got to be at a 10th planet school, train with Eddie, and get promoted all in the same weekend. 3 dreams came true! Your lucky you get to train with B-Dub and Tyler The Terror! They know there stuff!

Around 2005 or 06 I was training at a local gym where jj was kinda looked down on, hence I got a lot of time in with the instructor. He then moved and I needed to find a way to keep learning. Found submissions 101 and mastering the rubber guard, seen some videos on torrent so I bought the dvd mastering the twister. Later attended a seminar by scott epstein and one of the attendees looked like the guy from submissions 101 (it was Ari!!) 10th planet opened a few months later in victoria so I would make the drive once a week to train.

Have since moved but continue to train in the basement with my sons and neice, still active in competition and was promoted to blue online by Ari over the summer.

I heard about Eddie back in the day when many of us midwest wrestlers thought he was just some jaggoff Cali BJJ guy that had renamed the Guillotine/Abdominal Stretch so that he could claim he invented something new

But his name really wasn't on my radar at all until the Royler win.

I ended up buying all of Eddies books, starting with Jiu-Jitsu Unleashed in '05. I thought "hmmm... I'm a small, flexible Mexican with a fantastic goatee.... maybe I too can make this stuff work!"

And I did.

I got a lot of milage out of some very basic Rubber Guard, mostly using it as an Omoplata/Gogoplata setup. Twister Side and the Truck came naturally to me. I had already been using the Lockdown for years, but picked up some new tricks from there too. And I really apreciated the focus on no gi.

Oddly, I didn't actually get to a 10th Planet gym until last year. I stumbeled accross Josh and the Chicago North crew via a totally random internet search. I was actually kinda ticked that I hadn't known about the school earlier. I had even seen some of the guys at NAGA events, but I had thought they were all out of towners (nearest school I had known about was Indy). Anyhow, I called Josh, didn't bother to leave a message, but he called me right back anyhow. We talked for a bit and I asked if I could come check the place out the next time I was on the north side...

The rest is history.

My fellow training partner and one of our coaches were big 10th planet supporters and showed me lockdown to help me with my half guard. After realizing the control one has with the lockdown. I realized there were other high level instructors other than the Gracies and their black belts. I then went to college and started training with Neale Hoerle from ex 10th planet Morgantown and he has been so helpfull and encouraging for my interest in 10th planet showing me different variations of techniques Eddie has implemented. 10th planet for me is just another way of looking at BJJ so why not learn everything soak in as much BJJ as possible, even though i still train in the GI as well as NO-Gi.

saw someone(cant even remember who) go to mission control in mma. First thing found searching the web was abu dhabi 03. Started learning GBJJ and I had learned old school and the electric chair, everyone fell for it so I thought, why doesnt my instructor know about this if it works so well? That was the beginning.

How I came to 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu was simple, My dad and I used to wrestle all the time when I was growing up. Granted the technique wasn’t there, the heart was. When I got older, he became fatter and I became stronger, I started to win, and then he started to work out and lose weight. While I was away in Canada he started messing around with stretching, and lockdown, and the beginnings of Rubber Guard. At the time we were just messing around and he would just shit on me with his lockdown, whip up, old skool, and electric chair. As I would come and go for hockey season, he would continue repping the stuff behind my back and I would still come in as Macho as ever and try and rough him up. Many Rug Burns, Blood Stained Carpet, Backyard Headlocks, and SHITTY TECHNIQUE, brought us to the one guy who fucked with the 10th Planet System in Chicago… Josh Passini. From there my dad had done like 3 or 4 private lessons without me, and then I would end up going just to be his grappling partner, with little to no enthusiasm. About 2 months into private lessons Josh had invited us to come to his class and become full-fledged members of the Gym, apprehensive as hell, “I was like fuck that I’m not gonna go and get shit on by some random people” (At first I was that guy). After going my first class, and not getting killed, getting instruction from everyone at the gym, I started to warm up to Jiu Jitsu, I started to embrace the 10TH Planet Family. I started to realize that this wasn’t just a pastime, hobby, or some martial art, it was more than that. It was a clubhouse, a sweatbox, a house of pain, bumps and bruises, but the guys next to you all felt the same way. From there I was humbled, Broken Down and reborn a Nibiru Warrior.

Side-note. Josh has been there like a brother for me through tough times and good times, he has pushed me to be my greatest, and picked me up when I’m my worst. He’s been more than a coach, more than a instructor, and more than a mentor. Josh is family, and for that I’m eternally grateful. So Josh Thank You For Everything!
