No more triangle!!!

I've been seeing Cora go to her triangle once too many. She is good at it, so she thinks that is all she will use. So for a couple of days now this week, I tell her NO MORE Triangles. Don't even use it to set anything else up. No triangle in any form or position or else she will owe me 100 push ups. I want her to get proficent at other things as well...ie rubber guard attacks, RNC, killer Kimura I've been teaching her....anything else other than her go to move. So basically I'm asking her to go into battle, but leave the gun at home, only take the knives....lol

that is AWESOME man. shes gonna be a killer. dont forget one thing though, a lady named Honda Housey (sp?) is pretty well known for ONLY doing Armbars...didnt seem to tarnish her reputation I'm saying...maybe allow the triangle to initially be locked up, then make her transition from there. no squeeze. especially if thats what got her to PanAms anyway. make her rep it still

This is why I come in here.. You guys always have the right thing to say...LOL Man I never thought of it that way. I was just afraid that she become too predictable. But on the other hand, she been killin them with the triangle for the longest and even though they know its come, they still can't stop it. Just like Ronda Rousey... So I guess you have a point there.

My advice:

Let her go for what she likes. If she wants the triangle, let her kill with it. It builds incredible proficiency and self-confidence, which will encourage her to train more and harder. Plus it makes it fun for her. And if it's fun, she's gonna be more likely to stay with it and work hard for a lifetime, rather than burn out after a few years.

I think once she knows the triangle is her unstoppable go-to move, she will be comfortable venturing out into other moves, knowing she can fall back onto that in an emergency.

Yes exactly just let her get her numbers in with the triangles, eventually her training partners will get good at defending it, and it will make them better escaping and learn how to deal with it and in turn make better at trying to catch them in it.

I agree with every one on this thread, let her hit that triangle until peeps stop it. Nothing wrong with being an absolute monster with one sub, the Ronda example is huge.

But that's just in rolling.

Drill everything you see on MTS so when dudes stop her triangle she'll have mad back up plans already sharpened up and ready to go

wow thanks guys for all your input. I do appreciate every bit of advice. And of course when master eddie put his 2 cents in, Brucey have to really listen. ... I will allow her to use her Triangle for tomorrow. I already see what I wanted to see from her and yes she is able to do work without the triangle, but it does take longer to finish the match. Now she's hitting the armbar from rubber guard, looks decent enough. You are all correct and I agree with all of you. I guess having one great thing is way better than having 10 so so things. Also here are a few things we been working on the past couple of weeks. Just in case.

Half guard: Lockdown, whip up, old school, electric chair sweep, take back, kimura, butterfly sweep

rubber guard: armbar, carni, omoplata, gogoplata, special K, soccerer, sweep. I think she did what looks like a special K today.

Breaking posture: kimura, whizzer, hip bump, and a few others

Spider guard: sweep, triangle, armbar

kimura: defend single leg takedown, from all positions

Sitting guard and butterfly guard (some of Marcelo Garcia's stuff)

I think 2 more weeks of this, she will be ready for Pans.

Agree with everyone else 100%. Half the fun of jiu jitsu is exploring the paths of your favorite moves for months on end haha :-)
My advice would be don't get too 'involved' in her training, that is what her coaches are for. They are trained for this.
Also be careful not to be making her do so much so often that it starts to feel like a chore. You see it happen all the time. Would be a shame for her being so talented to lose interest. She has wicked skills bro. Congrats. :-)
