    Strength training and Jitsu Training

Ok so ive had this conversation with a few people but i wanna see what you all think...

What do you all do about strength training? do you weight lift before rolling/training or after? or do you do it in different days completely? or do you avoid weight lifting all together?

I want to gain muscle size, but i realized that when i weight lift i obviously get sore and my rolling goes down the drain and my game doesnt improve... etc

so how do you all deal with this? thoughts?

I try not to lift and roll on the same days, but if i do, i lift light and roll hard or vice versa. I don't know how long you have been lifting consistently but eventually you shouldn't be so sore the next day, making it much easier to roll the day after. Thats my little input anyways...

This hasn't been the case for the last couple months because an intense school schedule has kept me out of the gym and 10th planet.. but in general I work out 4 days a week and train 3-4 and there would be overlap. I focus on strength.. each day associated with a certain lift(overhead press, deadlift, bench, squat) and accessories related to the lift and that would be beneficial to my performance. Do a three week cycle with a deload week.. then repeat. Some of my accessories would be Olympic lifts but I also throw a cycle of purely Olympic lifts every couple of months... which goes 3 days a week but absolutely kills.. that would be to hard to explain without a even longer wall of text.

Like Dustin said at some point you won't be sore anymore.. once your body gets used to the volume. It does effect me when I train to a certain extent.. in the sense that my strength is severally limited.. but I prefer it that way. Forces me to get the technique right instead of powering through it which is something I struggle with and that has limited me.

Thats basically what I do.. works for me..

I never lift on the same day as rolling, i try to only roll on lifting "off" days, but after a few weeks of consistent, proper weight lifting, you shouldn't really get sore anymore. At least not sore enough to really limit your rolling, unless you are training for a fight and roll 100% sometimes in which case you had better be doing some strength training or you're in trouble haha.

I alternate days... Jujitsu Monday, Weight Lift Tuesday.

Somedays do overlap, but in that case, I lift weights on my lunch break, then go to class at night... Giving me a decent amount of time to rest.
Weight lifting for me is always total body. Heavy weights, short reps. (3 sets of 5 or 6 reps) I try to be explosive with the lift every time.

Seems to be working well for me....
I also have a nutritionist that has me eating properly for my metabolism.
I know it's hard to spend the money, but I feel like the nutritionist is what helps me the most.
I had no idea that I was burning over 3000 calories at rest until I took the metabolism test.
Couple that in with all the jujitsu and weightlifting, I was burning mad calories and not getting
enough fuel for my body. I think it's important to know what your body is doing normally, so
that you can make adjustments in your diet to build muscle mass or cut weight.

This is all just my opinion though....

Been weight training for 14 years, went from 155 (then) - 210 (today). Took up BJJ 4 months ago, still feels like I got hit by a truck the day after I roll.

If you're trying to put on muscle mass, switch up your weight training routine when you stop getting sore. Otherwise, you won't gain muscle mass as effectively. You're sore because the muscles are being broken down and rebuilt.

I try not to train/roll on the same day.

Im a Personal trainer and so im always in the gym, i train everyday i do something i usually focus on my fast twitch muscle fibers and cardio on days im going to roll and i tend to lift heavy and do my explosive stuff on the other days in the week and i do yoga everyday to keep loose. If your going to lift and try and gain remember that gaining power and gaining size are two different things and they do not i repeat they do not mean the same thing.

REMEMBER to STRETCH even after heavy lifting as it will help your muscle fibers recover as well as help you keep up with your 10th planet jj game
