The Rep system needs overhaul

I'm one of the few users that uses the rep system I guess. If I read a post that is funny or useful, I tend to give rep.
Seemingly there are about 8 or 10 users that I give rep to more often than other, because their posts are either useful or funny to me.
So after you give them rep once, you can't give them rep again for who-knows-how-long, which is silly. The system says you have to spread rep around before you can give it to so-and-so again. Well I do spread rep around, but still it seems I can't give rep to those who deserve it.

Maybe Elk can tweak it so it is a little more realistic?

I think the rep system should just be for positive rep/posts. Otherwise you get people giving bad rep just because they don't agree with your opinion. :-)

I respectfully disagree Sam. I personally have never given negative rep out, but you need that feature there to keep the positive rep actually worth something.
On some other forums I have seen where they only have the positive feedback, and there is no balance. People don't normally give out negative rep unless someone is truly being douchey on a regular basis. It was not uncommon to see dickheads constantly propping up other dickheads "rep" on some other forums I belongs to in the past.
At least this way you know it's legit.

I dunno. I have been given bad rep on here at least 3 or 4 times now, yet have never had any kind of argument or anything with anyone in over 800+ posts. I always try to post something of substance. I don't like to post just for the hell of it (in, sub'd, first etc). I even looked at the posts that I got negative feedback for ages ago and like 1 of them was a post of support to a fellow member? The bad rep was simply given out because that person/people didn't agree with what I said, or was just being pathetic. The posts were in no way confrontational at all.
TBH I am not too concerned if we keep the system or lose it forever. More often than not stuff like that just becomes a popularity contest anyway. Plus I only use it every now and then if I remember its there. :-)
