For Eddie: So what's the deal with Privates?

On the Podcast Eddie mentioned that he doesn't do privates. It struck me as a bit odd because Marcelo Garcia doesn't do privates either. Both of these guys are leaving at least $500 per hour on the table -or rather mat so I'm wondering just what is the deal with Privates. What is it that makes them so not fun that both of these guys would rather take a pass than teach a private?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

We were actually discussing (something similar) at our place a few weeks ago. A topic of who to have in for a seminar came up. People were throwing out names and of course Marcelo came up. Tim said that they had actually called him about a year and a half back and he said he wasn't even doing seminars anymore. The reasoning being that the cost per-peson to have him out would have to be so prohibitive (to thin out the requests just to make it feasible, something like $200up) that for that amount of money you could just as easily head out to his gym in NYC and roll at his school. The demand for guys like him and Eddie is so high (just for seminars) that they have to schedule so far in advance and eventually it becomes prohibitive to them personally. They can't spend time with their own affiliates along with keeping up with competition or their personal lives. Family, friends, other interests (Eddies music). That's for seminars, for mass groups of people. Our seminar with Eddie in March already has something in the neighborhood of 70 people pre-registered. Can you imagine attempting to schedule privates? Every fool with enough cash and a "rolling with a star" dream would be blowing up their phone everyday (and probably still do).

When I was training back in South Florida and I was at a seminar at ATT I asked this to one of the fighters that was good friends with Randy Couture and he said these guys either dont do privates or they charge some outrageous price to dissuade people from actually setting one up. I think Randy Couture wanted like 500 an hour or some shit for a private when he had that xtreme couture affiliate in Florida.

In all honesty these privates are a waiste of time for some one like Eddy and a waiste of money for you. More often then not your better off putting that money to use at your home school and getting privates from your instructor. The reason being is because

    1. Its cheaper
    2. Your instructor already knows you and the holes in your game
    3. If your doing privates consistently its easier to continue building on what you are learning
    4. Your instuctor more then likely knows what ever your going to ask Eddy to teach you if he is a 10th planet affiliate so theres really no point.

Im planning on saving up for 20 privates for the summer and just go HAM on guard passing my goal is to devestate guards in 2014.
