Cora match at Kids Pan AM

Here is Cora's match at the Kids Pan AMs this past weekend. They put her against the 4 time Champ in her very 1st match. She fought great, but came out short. The girl is obviously prepared for Cora's game. Although she didn't win, she put up a good fight and went the distance. The winner went on to tap out the rest of the girls in about a minute time. So I guess for us, we know Cora gave a Silver Medals performance, but due to bracket structure, she got eliminated.

I understand why some brackets are set up that way, but i dont like the idea of losing once and that being it. Im sure everyone wants to get some more mat experience

Yeah it sucks bro. Same thing happened to me last year at a Gi comp. Traveled miles, get there and my first opponents is a 3 1/2 year white belt that ended up winning the whole thing. I got submitted in like 4 minutes then that was my day done.

Well done Cora. You will be back better and stronger next time for sure. :-)

The video skips in the beginning, so I can't tell how she got her guard passed so early on. I would suggest she work more on guard passing and guard defense. But a hard fought match. I'm still a fan.

Her opponent was Alyssa Mia Wilson from the Mendes Bros academy. It was her fourth consicutives pan ams championship. Your daughter fought good she is legit good job man!

Yeah the structure of IBJJF really sucks. And the clip got cut because I was so nervous that I push the record button again, thus stopping the recording. Anyways, Alyssa took Cora into deep water and Cora got out fine. Cora was in her guard, but she can't finish her. She mounted Cora, she couldn't finish her. Unless she has a submit mentally, she won't ever finish Cora. Too bad that Cora wasn't able to get that guard, because I can 100% guarantee that Alyssa has never been put into a guard like that of Cora's. She never been in a rubber guard. Since the kids at AOJ compete alot, they are very good at collecting points, which is the opposite of our game plan, I train Cora to finish fights, not collect points. Also I train Cora using the 10thplanet system, which is NO GI, Allyssa was very good at holding on to Cora's gi for control. So basically you have 2 good kids from different systems, and the winner was the one who got to their system first. But rest assure that we will work harder on it. The next night, Master Eddie addressed why Cora lost the match in his class. He said that at first Cora will be killing kids with her rubber guard, but as time goes by, they will try their best to stay out of her guard, thus making it tougher and tougher for her to get people into her guard. So instead of going for the guard right away, Cora need to develope her half guard game...... I understood where he is coming from and we will start right away on it.

To confirm what Eddie said (not that it needs it),In my travels to other traditional schools, with more traditional trained people, I find getting to guard a pain, let alone getting posture broke and getting to RG. But most will happily give you HG. If then I work to FG I usually have posture broke already, then can go to RG. I have been to one very traditional, top level school a couple of times and have never, not once, had someone in my full closed guard with control. Tuff road!
