Keenan Cornelius of ATOS Jiu-Jitsu against Gianni Grippo of Renzo Gracie NYC battled it out in the finals of the brown belt absolute division at the 2013 IBJJF Boston Winter Open.



What caught my eye was the double C-cup that could have gone to truck @ 3:45, if only Gianni had have watched MTS.

That is the same pass that he used to beat Miyao. Slick as fuck and lightning fast. Almost looks like he's just passing in a scramble, but he is deliberately side-kicking the inner thigh then ducking under the opposite leg. There will be reps.

Is he even leg dragging? I can def see that combo working but this seems to be a hybrid. His left arm doesnt have a grip and his right just clears the leg and swims across the hips. Either way its badass.

That's true, but after doing so many leg drag variations, almost anything where you redirect/clear the legs past your hips starts to morph into a leg drag. I actually feel like the core of the leg drag isn't even the initial drag, but moreso walking into their hips to break them facing away from you and holding until you've dominated the hips to safely pass.

Rafa & Gui always get to that position which I feel like is the core leg drag position in my mind.

I see what you're saying though. I understand Keenan didn't really establish this position, but I feel this image really shows what I feel like the "leg drag position" is. Rafa isn't really stabilizing on the hips here, he's starting to go to the back, but it's the best image I could find.

I thought about it too. Agreed. Leg drag has become a position to be controlled. Settle over his hips and keep his thigh trapped to advance control.
