What are you working on right now? and....

    Hey guys.

Just wondering what are you working on right now (positions/subs etc)?
Also how do you train? For example, how long do you stick with paths for before you decide to work on other paths etc? Do you even drill whilst rolling? For example put yourself purposely in a position (like guard) to work from there.

For me, right now I am working alot more on my top game, control, also lots of deep hook transitions, spiderweb etc etc.
I concentrated on the basic path for a few months, starting every roll on my back, always hunting for gogo's, omaplata's etc.

Just wanted to get an idea of how some of you like to train. Your preferred methods. Thanks. :-)

    Hey Sam

I did the exact same when I first started I'd purposely pull guard and play from there, I did this for 6months or so and then I moved on to side control and so on. I now start every roll in a negative situation and work my escapes/sweeps to try and hit mount to improve my top game.

I have been playing alot with spider web recently too as I had a few holes I wanted to tighten up.

I do as much scenerio rolling as possible aswell, which really brings my game on to help me and my training partner improve our defence and attack in postions you might not normally hit whilst rolling.

Right now I've been working on a choke from the back, it's in Ryan Hall's dvd as an Ezekiel choke, its pimp because it comes from the back and you don't have to get under the chin.

I let people get me in side control and mount to practice escaping sometimes but never with new students beause it goes to there head.

I usually work on the same move set for a month or so and then move on and come back later. There are just so many things to get good at :-/

My offensive game is usually based on whatever injuries I have... My guard is my gold game but knee and ankle injuries have kept me from being able to play it much... I've a very long and thin body, so my top game is pretty weak, my side control and mount are nowhere near the dominant positions they should be, so most of the time, im trying to work to get, hold, and play paths off side control and mount , just to better them...

I also like most people feel too controlled when in side control or mount, so I commonly give up side control to battle out of it, because I feel catching subs is always there, but being able to escape isn't so its what I should be focusing on most...

right now im focusing on sweeps more than anything, submissive sweeps and throws. You can really surprise someone with some of the different sweeps in judo if you incoperate it into your jiu jitsu game.

When rolling I try to pull half guard as much as possible at the moment, and work the systems sweeps from there, and work the basic path when in full guard. If i manage to sweep I look to try twister side control although I'm really struggling with it. But yeah, mainly focusing on my guard game and side control game rather than submissions at the moment.
