Ari, I literally woke up this morning to the following dream.

You stopped by 10th Planet Montreal because you were in town for other reasons. You were in a rush and you were just quickly dropping in to say hi. Before you leave you jokingly ask who wants to drive back to B.C with me for the Keith Owen seminar? Everybody was laughed it off because its so far. But I said I would. You thought I was crazy but you were super stoked that I would actually just get up and leave right then and there. I told you I wanted to roll with red. So you were like ok lets go. And then I woke up.

I'm dead serious. This was this morning.

Is it really this bad in the US between gi and no-gi players?
It reminds me of the feud between Judoka and Brazilian Jiu Jitsueros from the mid nineties to the mid 2000's.

In our school we encourage students with a different background to teach some classes at regular times. We have got some Chechens with a background in Greco-Roman, Freestyle and SAMBO.
Most of us have a background in Judo (I'm still practising it besides my BJJ). One of my instructors is also a full instructor in Erik Paulson's CSW, so the 'SW' part gets integrated.

The only thing is that I have gotten a slight preference for gi over the years. Not that it's better or that I'm negletting my no-gi, but I can fight slower in gi because of the extra grip. The next day I feel if the previous night was gi or no-gi. Offcourse it could also be that some of the Chechen Wrestlers only fight with us no-gi and those guys are huge, fit, on top of their game and more than a decade younger than me :-(

very nice! I was shocked to hear Eddie state that would be the perfect combo Pedro/10th, because that's what I have been working on for 4+ years now! Just a few more months, just a few more.....

Gi doesn't make your no gi better, nor does football make your rugby better. It's two different sports.

Anyone that says to a grappler that you need the gi to get better at no-gi, I find obnoxious. And, on that note, anyone that says that the gi sucks is retarded. It is also a beautiful sport.

But, also the notion that you need to, you must train both is equally fascist.

I don't know the answer to this, but do you see people screaming at 100 meter hurdle runners that they need to *equally* train 800 to make their 100 better, or vice versa? Anyways, they too are different sports.
