I have had it done to me and it's more to it than knowing the defense. Everyone knows its coming and they still get caught, its legit. I know of black belts that have gotten caught in it and they knew it was coming too.

It was more than satisfying to see him go down so quickly (without knowing to try for the von flu!).

Conner -you should totally be his coach! His philosophy-mindset-and-humility coach. The attitude that you and your dad show here on the forum are about 10,000% more impressive than this guy. When i heard about your connection to him originally, i was psyched to watch him on the show. Now? -good riddance.

This is more along the lines of what I am thinking. I think the guy's long arms, and the angle of his wrist make it something almost new rather than a guillotine. Hell he choked the guy to sleep when the guy was in side control on him. The angle of the hands, seem to me to make trying something like a von flue choke futile, as it would only make you go out faster.

From just seeing it a few times on TV, it seems to be the sort of choke that you dont get out of once it is set, and to keep it from getting set you have to be willing to roll into the arm and completely sacrifice position while hand fighting the other hand the whole time.

I think it could be more a body type choke (best used by guys with long arms in light weight classes) but alot of techniques work better for certain body types over others, it looks to me to be a killer move the guy has down pat.

As for the Guillotine defense comments from folks on thread, I guess you missed the fact the guy passed to side control, where its supposed to be impossible to get choked with a guillotine?

Nick Diaz has a youtube video of his guillotine and he uses a similar grip. Both the Diaz brothers do actually.

Found it.. the setup is totally different but the grip seems similar.

Too similar to the "Swickotine" which has lost all significance since mike swick doesn't win anymore.

Well think of it this way. Since I've learned the actually defenses for a guillotine I haven't been tapped by a guillotine since I started JJ. And too me that guillotine didn't look like anything special he was just putting everything into it, he was really cranking on it.

Just like everyone else i was shocked, i went nuts when i saw him pass out that fast. I really think marc wanted him to go for it, just to prove it wasnt that serious when he went for the takedown. Cody's 11-0 for a reason and he has the guillotine perfected for his game.
