Tough day in competition

Since I have started competing in Jiu Jitsu I have always placed in the top three in every tournament I have entered...until today. To start off nobody was in my division so I got bumped up to the next weight class. In my opinion that really shouldn't matter. 15 or 20 pound shouldn't make too much of a difference but it definitely did. Mike Dewitt and I had our ninth or tenth match in competition against each other and today he walked away with the sub. And then another pretty bad ass dude got me in an arm bar. I ended up pulling off two pretty nice subs including another flying triangle. It's gonna be a couple of days till I can get video up but I just had to vent. In the long run these losses will be good for me. I think my ego needed to be put back into check. Looking forward to working hard and getting rid of the bitter taste of defeat.

15-20 lbs makes a hell of difference. Look at Nick Diaz wanting his .9 lb back. And yet here you are giving up 15-20 lbs. The strength level between 15-20 lbs is huge when both guys are at same skill level. We experience it also with my daughter fighting kids that are 10-15 lbs heavier than her. If not for their size and strength, she would have tapped all of them out. But she was only able to tap out 2 of the 3 boys she fought today. One got away by luck. But we think he did tap and the ref didn't see it.
