Advice needed on a painful family issue.

Some of you know about my issues with my 12 year old son already. The department of children's services dropped the ball on the abuse case despite pictures, testimony, etc. Regardless my son was forced to go back to his mother Monday through Friday weekly. He now smokes and drinks at his mother and boyfriend's home. Despite this great tragedy he has dove head first into the system and finally stopped taking ass whoopings at school. I have to applaud his use of mission control in the bathroom until it was broke up. Anyways to the point. His mother enrolled him at my local competition's karate school. He hates it and doesn't want to go. I'm really at the end of my rope guys. Any ideas from my 10th Planet brothers?

Sorry to hear about this. Would it be possible to explain to his mother that he prefers jiu jitsu to karate. Maybe suggest that he joins a 10th planet school if there's one near by?

Perhaps even have your son try to explain this to her?

If it were that easy bro. I run the closest thing to a hotbox at a gym. I teach kids and adults and have a 3rd dan in Tae Kwon Do, almost 4 years in 10P, high school wrestling , Olympic Training center for tkd, and on and on lol. My ex wife told him that I teach junk and all this rolling around is useless when someone could just punch him in the face. I guess it's just another way for her to inflict pain.

That sucks man. What about even an mma gym? Then he can maybe get some Muay Thai and bjj. That way he gets to roll which he enjoys and he learns how to handle himself with striking which could keep his mother happy.

You can tell her that fights start with a punch to face but end up on the ground because bullies find it easier to sit on someone rather than chase them around.

Obviously if he's already using mission control in self defence situations he is becoming aware first hand of its effectiveness.

I feel you hold all the cards here. But still no need to overplay em. In time as his single experince becomes many he will naturally ditch the karate. It seems cool youre ultra aware you wont be gaining a thing by turning him against his mother, you just want the best for him.

Thanks man, I already discussed with him that it's not the instructor's fault and he's running a school same as we are. He needs to respect their class and learn whatever he finds useful. It still just bites me right in the seat meat.
