They're now taking away points for people that take too long to tie the belt, or tie their belt in a way as it may fall off.

As far as grip fighting, shit with today's "modern" jiu jitsu, I can't remember the last time I've really seen a match under medium-heavy where one or both people didn't immediately pull guard right away. There's very little standup action anymore.

At Metamoris they tied everyone's belt knot so they wouldn't come undone.

I feel as a man if you allow another man to remove your belt while you are resisting have already failed...maybe all the guys are taking their belts off intentionally because subconsciously they are wrestling with their own sexuality? Maybe I have smoked to much weed and happened to read a chapter on Sigmund Freud in my Psychology book prompting me to give this response? Maybe!

I know I really suck at tying my belt but it really takes me a minute to do for some reason lol especially when there's a sudden stop in an intense match and my forearms are gassed. since there's no urgency to hurry up and tie my belt, I definitely take my time with that lol but I agree that it's ridiculous. maybe refs should tie belts when they come off?

A majority of the time its during resets, so it makes some sense if you're doing gi. There are plenty of times when people abuse it, but not anywhere near close to 5 min a majority of the time.

I've had guys untie their belts on me, after I've used the grip to break the guard and stand up a couple times. Most memorable was the dude started to untie it from guard and I grabbed both ends and cinched it back up tight. Ref watched the whole thing lol

They make fasteners that go over the knot that keep it tight.

The worst,, I think, is how they make you wear two belts in competition. The green and yellow belt and your belt. Just one or the other, no need to double up

OMG yeah I hate this. I always seem to be the guy who has to wear it too. I just toss my belt aside and just wear the green and yellow belt but still, it's usually a one size fits all belt and the thing drapes down to your knees.

I think IBJJF is starting to go the judo route and make one person where a blue gi and the other white to keep people from wearing that 2nd belt.

Just thought of this, are you allowed to use that 2nd belt to hold onto single legs? It would be an advantage for the other person without if you could, more material to grab for.
