Sorry to hear about Cora, man. Hope all is well with her. She's one tough kid, and we all love her here. Keep us posted on her condition. We are all sending good energy her way.

When I was at the Detroit seminar, I was repping out with a young guy there, from Prison guard to Back mount, and his cup bruised my ribs. That was weeks ago and I still feel it. Just from repping out.

Thank you Nathan, I will pick her up from school today to go get her xray.

Kurzy: So the cup was an issue for you too huh? THe more and more I research about this subject, more people tell me that it is illegal in the kids division to wear cup. And from what yall telling me, its an issue for adults as well. Of all the tournament we been to, none of the boys ever wore a cup. This is not the 1st time Cora been armbared, but with the cup on its 10 times worse than what it was. With a cup on, even if you don't really have an armbar, you can still get the tap out. The fulcum is like 2-3" higher than without the cup. And in your case, it digs in your ribs. I been talking to the mom of the boy that got hurt by the same cup and she said there is a bruise on the boys face from that triangle with the cup. Just not right at all.

some can justify that using a cup is to their safety, but come on.... its not MMA or kickboxing...its Jiu Jitsu. Since Cora been competing, she has yet to kick, kneed, or elbow and boy in the nutts. Nor have I witness it done on any boys at those tournaments. So wearing one for protection isn't really necessary unless they clearly know that they can use it to their advantage.

Idk.. I don't consider wearing a cup cheating at all. I highly doubt the person is doing it for a competitive advantage, they likely are doing it for safety - especially if it's youth.

I do agree that it creates a higher point for joint locks - I just don't think it's cheating. As was stated, I'm sure Cora could wear one for protection as well. Although if it wasn't allowed by rule in that tournament that would be entirely different.
