    Biting the bullet

Going to join the Gracie Academy down the street. For $145, I get unlimited lessons in gracie jiu jitsu and Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan. I'm still going to be looking for people I can practice 10P with though.

    What city are you in?

Norfolk, VA. I put feelers out and had a lot of people respond. Quite a few where down for it, but when it came time to do it...chirp...chirp...chirp....

It's a navy town. I get that. But most of the respondents were non-military types and were pushing to get everything going.

Well, you may get lucky -- not all schools are against 10th planet techniques etc, so maybe during an open mat or some free time you can rep techniques there with someone... I know alot of the schools around here are starting to be much more open and friendly to Eddie and the notions of the System.

There are def schools that arn't that way... Our moons female All Star, Amber was training at a school with a Gracie black belt and wanted to do more nogi training so was coming to our school for some additional nogi classes since they didn't offer much nogi. Once she started tapping girls with 10p moves, controlling people with lockdown etc, the GJJ instructor told her she had to choose one school or the other, and couldn't practice that "American jiujitsu"... She choose 10p and a has been a huge part of the fam ever since...

But in any case, it's worth finding out... If your instructor doesn't want you doing 10p stuff there and you still want to train there since its the only way your going to get real training in, not much can be done, train there and keep lookin for local partners and make trips to seminars and meetups... It would be a shame if you didn't make the attempt to findout because he may very well not mind you doing 10p stuff aslong as you demonstrate it working and not being in the way of your training; any instructor is going to be frustrated if your throwing rubberguard up any chance you get but you can't shrimp or pass a guard... but Id assume not too many will mind you using lockdown to dominate half guard as long as your not just stalling with it...

There's a couple of guys who are open to it, but both are out to sea at the moment. One of them trains out in Virginia Beach under Gustavo Machado.

I get what you're saying. The place I'm going to has a free 10 day trial period, so I'll be getting a better idea of what they will and will not allow.

Just be open about your 10th Planet training when you go to an academy, be like these are the techniques I use. They work FOR ME. I am willing to learn what you have to teach, but I like to have an open mind. If your instructor has serious issue with this and doesn't want you there. Part ways as friends.
