I use a similar thing...
I put both hands on right side of abdomen under ribs(lots of pressure) and put left leg in same place as Keith Owen does<EDIT:important detail is to make sure you get on toes on right foot so standing is easy). Then, I stand up.. driving left knee across their belly and coming up on to my right foot with right knee now up.. looking to my right
It usually opens the legs while giving you good enough posture to hip forward.. clear the leg and pass to side control(or a cradle).
Might not be great for her due to size issues but worth a shot as its high percentage for me and Im typically smaller than most at 155
