This will be my first MMA fight I have ever been in. My boxing is rusty, I can still punch good but my movement and striking cardio is not nearly as good as my grappling at the moment.
The guy I am going against is an old sparring partner of mine and friend and it worries me a little because we agreed not to full blast strike each other, but I realize he wouldn't be fighting if he didn't want a win. I am going to honor the friendship, however very cautious so I can defend a full blast strike. This would mean that it's on and I don't have to hold back, but it still worries me if he catches me off guard and capitalizes!
I know he thinks I will play my usual passive style, but I will try to throw him off and be the aggressor instead of the counter fighter. I plan on standing with him for about a minute before going for takedowns. He is a black belt in something similar to hapkido, so his kicking is a lot better than mine, but my boxing is better than his and we both have good exchanges against each others style. We have similar ground skills, but I have the edge on the ground as long as I don't go to my comfort zone on bottom and get stuck in a passive style eating punches.
