I found out over two years ago that I have a gluten intolerance. I had digestive issues since I was a teenager and the doctor tested for many things before telling me to try a gluten free diet (cheaper and easier than the test for Celiac's since it is not always 100% accurate). I did it for two weeks and felt like a new person! I had more energy, less bloating and bathroom issues and I have not eaten gluten since. I had an issue a few months ago when I was contaminated by a new medicine I started taking and I felt miserable. It was so bad that I had to take some time off of training. Since then, I found a document of acceptable medications and reference that before trying something new, especially since a medication can vary between manufacturers so one may use gluten as a filler when another does not.
The diet was very difficult in the beginning but now it is not a problem. My boyfriend is very supportive and only chooses restaurants we know are safe if we eat out and his parents even changed their eating habits to accommodate when we go there for dinner. Some of the guys at the gym are astonished by how tasty the gluten free treats I make are too. I use them as taste testers for any new recipes I want to try out
