For functional strength, you can't really beat kettlebell and bodyweight workouts. Also, as others have mentioned, focus more on being dynamic against the stronger guys. Always fight the opponent in the aspect where they are weakest. Even if you can out-muscle them, why do it when there is an easier route. Also, get a basic understanding of anatomy. It doesn't matter how strong you are, the human body has functions in which it is stronger and more efficient and other functions where it doesn't function as well and is naturally weaker. Use the latter to your advantage. As Bobby said, Skeletal structure > muscles. Avoid having to burn your muscles out, and save those for the right opportunity.

The real answer is technique, as many have already stated. Cade Nelson (10planet black belt) is old, fragile and 127lbs. And this guys top pressure is as nasty and heavy as anybody. His guard passing pressure makes you want to tap, seriously. Anyone that knows him, knows that I speak the truth about this. Cade is a great example but there are many tiny guys out there with crushing pressure and monster top game. Strength doesn't make your top game heavier, technique does.

A few people on here have given you great advice about certain techniques and concepts, like the bone-structure and the angles and the inside space... take that advice.

Kettle bell is doing great things for me. I add it into my normal Pushups, Crunches, Pullups routine and there are lots of good videos about MMA/BJJ specific work outs with the kettle bell. Also, healthy diet and exercise is all you can do to shed lbs. Paleo isnt that hard if you like to experiment with cooking.

This is why goats are better than horses

become a lumberjack and you'll be ok. sleep all night and work all day.

another idea is the mental aspect of it all. dont just push the opponent to the right distance. imagine your pushing through them. eventually youll learn to control it and then polish it al up.

I agree with what a few in the group said about moving. It's hard work. You can't be lazy at all...but I think that's a huge part of it. Learn how to move and you can never have someone just crush you. I am 115lbs. I will roll with anyone in the gym up to 300lbs. Whatevs. I used to get stuck a lot and crushed for sure, but you have to be like a stick of butter. If they can't hold on to you, they can't do anything to you. Superior movement + defense. You will be unstoppable! Lol.
Be one with yourself and know you can do anything when you are friends with yourself.
