i think ther are many ways in which you can consider yourself successful in jiu jitsu. winning competitions, learning a new technique, being a great coach, getting your blue, purple, brown, or black belt. personally, competing isnt my number one goal. i feel that focusing on improving my jiu jitsu in practice and becoming as good as i can be is what im looking for. i want to open up my own affiliate one day and knowing perfect technique is the key so thats what i work towards. but i also know that everything works together hand in hand, pratising more means im better in comps and comps give me extra experience and get me towards a higher belt which means i can open my gym which means people will come train and i can learn more and get evn more practise in and so on.
so maybe being successful in jiu jitsu is setting a goal and striving for it until you reach it. the fact that you can never run out of goals in jiu jitsu, that there is always something new to try and learn, is just an amazing thing.
