I wore a similar shoulder brace too when I was nursing my sprain, KT tape underneath also helps with support. Be sure to wear it outside ur rashguard so ur partners know which side not to put weight on (or tell them to not do any shoulder locks at all).

For the sake of Cora's development it would greatly help her if you trained as well. It is possible to train around injuries, granted not easy but possible

Bruce, on that note what if u just tried doing the class warmups and doing technique but just sat out rolling? Maybe that would be a good way to slowly acclimate and see if how u'd feel. I can't see how that'd be any more impactful then bball where people could come crashing down on u from layups or rebounds. Also, in terms of time is there a way u'd find to maybe skip one bball game and go to class? Unless u're in a money league, then I can understand. Just putting it out there, by no means am I telling u what to do

Eddie 'shut it down' as you speak, but mostly out of respect to Eddie. It is his system, his website etc. Certainly doesn't mean people have all had a u-turn and completely changed their opinions about it.

As I have said many times before, child safety is the most important thing here. You aren't going to send your kids to be taught to drive by a guy that has never driven a car themselves, at least I wouldn't anyway. Its would be ridiculous. But that's just me.

Not hating on Eddie or anybody else for their opinions though. We are all entitled to them. However I will say this. Its tough enough teaching when you are a blue or purple belt when there are plenty of other academies about, with browns and black belts teaching. A guy teaching jiu jitsu that has never rolled even once would be a laughing stock. That would get some major bullshido McDojo criticism probably online and locally.

IMO if Bruce wants to help Cora awesome, but I stand 100% behind everything I have said. A guy that has never trained has no business teaching, and I am sure if you had a 'poll' asking the ENTIRE jiu jitsu community that question 99.9% of them would agree with me. No matter how much a person say's they 'understand Eddies philosophies' or whatever.
IMO he also has a duty to inform every parent that he actually has no martial arts training or experience. So they know the risks.

This is nothing against Bruce, he has clearly done well with Cora. Nobody said otherwise (I don't think). Even a few days before all this topic I had PM'd Bruce to link him to the video of that poor kid getting hurt fighting in the adult division, and we spoke briefly about our kids rolling with bigger kids and the dangers. It's no witch hunt that is for sure.

I hope you find a way to train.

Although it's possible to teach as you had, the next level of teaching involves being able to troubleshoot techniques. This can be done via personal experience or asking on this forum as you have been. It won't be as good as personally being there but it's the best we can do given the circumstances.

Alot to be learned from this thread, namely that Bruce better cover his ass versus liability and always have additional adult supervision present when other people's children are involved. if you think Brent was harsh, try dealing with the law. Even with a heart of gold and the purest of intentions there's always someone looking to capitalize on a weakness if it's available, best way to counter that is to go above and beyond in creating a safe open environment. I think your ambitions are noble, but continue your research, look into a local YMCA perhaps that can provide you facilities and limited liability coverage. It doesn't have to be a 10th planet banner because of all the obvious political reasons, but hey, in 10 years if Cora wants to open up her own moon, she will have all this teaching experience under her belt. BTW, your a fucking communist for giving away Jiu-Jitsu...way to go against the grain, not very 'Merikin That being said, your doing a great service in propagating the martial arts to young people, which in essence, will hopefully create less predators and provide the tools with which to combat them. I have already stated that I think Bruce should be training.

But just to play devils advocate again:
I am friends with the owners of a Gymnastics club. They are called Champions Gymnastics, and they repeatedly produce Champions.
None of the coaches can "do" any of the acrobatic techniques that the kids can do, but still somehow my buddy (with his bad back) and his father (with a 100lb pepsi-belly) can coach these kids from nothing, teaching them everything they ever will know about gymnastics, and they do nothing but WIN, ALL THE TIME.
...double twisting flips and all sorts of crazy shit.

I am a firm believer that an instructor should know htf to do Jiu Jitsu before they try to teach it. Otherwise we would all be running around trying to lugnut each other.
