Hey fellas. I came to 10th from a more traditional school. I put significant (years) in with the Machados and Cia Paulista. Since I started rolling, I followed the system. This has always gotten me sideways looks at the traditional schools and I never got any praise when it worked (either on the mat or in a tournament), but there was always plenty of discouragement (or about how my knees were going to get wrecked) if it didn't pan out. Never really bothered me much, I kept using it because I thought it was fun and it played up my flexibility.

I think the interviewer obviously has a chip, which is probably the same chip his instructors have (students learn more than just Jits). Honestly, I think all the sideways looks and discouragement is just because it's a product they aren't qualified to share. Simple as that, I think at it's core the guy at the Chevy dealership is going to tell you that the Toyota isn't as good as his product. I like rolling with the Gi, it's fun too. I think it's like Gibson vs. Fender, they can both make great music and I'll take one of each.

I think all Jiu Jitsu is good. The problem is not Gi vs No Gi. The real problem is when people try and defend a position that needs no defense. Gi Jiu Jitsu is great... No Gi Jiu Jitsu is also great... There is plenty of room for both. This art is constantly evolving, If anyone is trying to discredit one to validate the other they are missing the point. Progression and the fact that No Gi and Gi exist is what will move Jiu Jitsu forward. Competition between the two is healthy and great for the art.

People should accept all styles as a piece of a big puzzle, everyone is trying for the same thing. Stop hating!!!
