When I own my academy, I will award a ranked rashguard and shorts. I will also still call my students ranks by belt, its just easier.

If he's going to appeal to logic, I'd like to hear his thoughts on the purpose of a belt. I was under the impression that it was to hold up pants; perhaps I'm mistaken? Maybe we could just start constructing the gi pants to contain a drawstring that corresponds to one's perceived skill level in the art. Then we could rid ourselves of these all superfluous accessories, with the gi and without.

Not a logical conclusion. Since when did we go by who we tapped to determine a belt? If I put in all the time and effort that a blue belt has and grapple at a blue belt level, then what's so illogical about receiving a blue belt? It's as symbolic as someone in a gi wearing a blue belt. We earn 'em, we just don't need to wear 'em.
