    The jokes.
Seriously, when I met Eddie at a seminar back in '09 the thing that made me a 10th Planet lifer was the easy humor he had with the subject matter. I had always had very militant, or "angry coach" style instructors in the past, and Eddie just blew me away with how he tied every technique in with a story or a joke, and that just happens to be the best way for me to learn.
From there the love of the system has only grown.

Saw a gogoplata on YouTube. Hit it at my very first tourney I ever went to. Started doing my research on where gogoplata came from. Discovered 10P system. Fell in love with it.

This is pretty interesting as quite a few people have similar journeys....I myself hate wearing a guy, it's impractical in my opinion. I also don't like the whole parading around with a belt round my waist mentality found in other styles (not just JJ). It isn't for me, the concept of an entire system dedicated to working without a Gi was my main attraction...I am looking forward to a long and rewarding journey within 10PJJ

While training in traditional jj I had no real game from my back but was very good at controlling from the top. while I was deployed i was searching on youtube and came across some "basic path" video while Eddie was up in Victoria, BC. I started working the basic path and then ordered his rubber guard dvd set and continued to study it while deployed. now i am pretty dangerous from guard in both tourneys and mma. i like the system because that's what it is. a system that leads you to a variety of options from each position not just throwing up wild arm bars and triangles that anyone can see coming from a mile away. additionally, eddie teaches nothing is 100% but this system tends to raise your %'s when you attempt a submission or sweep if done properly. also, i really like the family/team concept. i've been all over the country and nearly everywhere i go when i have a tenth planet shirt on, someone from a differnet moon will come up and talk to me. 10PFL!!

    This! Lol Jk

My husband has been studying for years. I was around it but resisted learning for the longest time because that was his guy time, his time away from home and every day problems. After I lost a bunch of weight I felt more comfortable and he needed a dependable training partner, so I decided to learn to help him. Then I began to love it and now of course hate that I resisted it for so long!!!

Several interesting things happened to me on my path to the system:

Trainined in the gi for almost 2 yrs, then the first time I rolled no gi I had no idea what to do. All of my attacks relied on the collar!

I had heard of some guy named eddie bravo at my school, but the advanced belts mentioned that he was a phony.

I was Jason chambers on the Human weapon, talking about how his instructor was the first one to tap out a gracie in competition. At the time I was kind of upset that it wasn't someone from my school!

My original instructor was Brazilian and he was on roids, so needless to say he had a large ego and anger issues. I ended up leaving the academy. While in training limbo I happened to discover MTRG book and I finally found out who this eddie guy was.

I've always been pretty flexible, so I was eager to try it all out! After a little while of drilling moves with my bro, I tried some rubber guard out while rolling with a blue belt friend at my apartment and tapped him out with a go-go. It was the first blue belt I ever tapped!

After that I became a deciple, spreading the 10th planet ways! haha

It just so happened that the only other school besides HQ at the time was in PHX. I was in Tucson at the time, so I would make trips up to PHX at the time to visit Mr. Botello. It was really cool to be at an actual school!

For a while I trained in boston at a gracie barra school, where I was the "10th planet guy". Then I eventually made my way out to LA to live for a while, where after 4 yrs I got my blue belt and then eventually my purple belt from Eddie.

I've been enjoying the ride and im really happy I have my students now how are mastering the system everyday just like me!

In my case, blind luck. I went down with roommate who knew Eddie through Joe Rogan. Eddie gave me his Twister DVD, and watched it and listened to his arguments and felt that they made sense. I never considered any other options.
