I prefer to let go of lockdown and grab the ankle instead of high on the hip. If I keep the underhook high, I hit it hard and fast passing immediately. I think you only really get subbed if you let them set it up. Its pretty hard to hit a d'arce on the fly, snatching guillotines is easier which is why you should pass immediately.

I lived off this sweep as a white belt but around blue people started to Darce or Guillotine me so I stopped going for it. Now I'm all about deep half or 5.0/ Apollo.

If you still find yourself playing a lot of halfguard, It would give you a lot more options if you put old school back into your game. Imo it is one of the most effective sweeps from half. If you try it and still find you are getting caught in darces etc do some positional sparring and see whats going on.

You become hyper sensitive to darce & guillotine attempts after years playing on the inside, but you must walk thru the fire and get caught a hundred times or so. It's just like playing the leg lock game :-) #oldschool4L

Dip settting is combination attack. To be precise, you would attack for old school, then when they sprawl in defence to it, you set out to attack with the electric chair as you normally would. As they re base back by posting on both hands you go with it and blast straight up to the dogfight and challenge their base there. Imagine it as a combination in a flow, you go with it and take the path of least resistance. Sometimes, it may even take a few attempts going back and forth until you find a hole and drive into it to get the sweep.
Dip set! It's a great asset to have when you play bottom half if the guy has awesome base and you cant finish off your back.

Finally, I like to think about the Dip set as a PRINCIPLE rather than just a combination I am always putting together combinations to attack with, using any misdirection tactics is the same thing like going from the half and half to Plan B. To me, its dip setting.
