My match from the IBJJF Pan No Gi Championship.

Was up family! I traveled from Vista, CA to Bethlehem, PA to teach a seminar, and compete at the 2013 IBJJF Pan No Gi Jiu Jitsu Championship in New York City! It was my first time in NYC, and my first time competing at Brown Belt in a IBJJF event. I had a blast!! Saw so many things, met a lot of great people, and even got to train at Marcelo Garcia's academy!! Anywhoo, here is my first match, I lost on points, but loved the experience! I cant wait for No Gi WORLDS!!! Please leave me some feedback, Id appreciate it oss

No disrespect towards your opponent. It was obvious he wasn't looking to finish and I never felt as if he was truly committed to advancing positions. Even at the halfway point he was asking how much time was left on the clock.

Regardless of the final score. You continued to work. Awesome job, a unique experience. Congratulations on showing up and competing!

It was a pleasure meeting you. I apologize I wasn't able to hang around longer. I would have liked to. Though I won't go into detail of why I couldn't. For those people are not here to justify their actions. I will keep smiling because it was still a great learning experience (:

I'll have video up soon, keep a look out if you're interested!

awesome job, great guard recovery. The only advice (of course this is in hindsight) is maybe go for a sweep instead of looking for the sub all the time to keep him guessing. The guy looked strong and with a great base, you look more quick and agile, so a sweep and then work on top looking for the kill. guys that are good on top like him usually dont have guards like yours. I think you could have killed him from top. Awesome job though and good luck at worlds

Been watching your vid and elon, I notice the same thing happening both of you guy's matches. You go for the subs and the other guy just focus on point passing. I watch many vids from 10thplanet guys and I think its in yall's nature to go for the finish and most of yall's opponent are the strong wrestler type that is great at control and have great base. So for a point system tournament, you all are fighting in the wrong format already. We have been experiencing that a lot over here as well personally. But that is how we will continue to fight, go for the submission vs just trying to pass and score points just to win a tournament because the "streets" doesn't know points. Great job.

I think you are all judging his opponent a little harshly. Of course he kept passing, because Ryan kept regaining his guard. I am sure if Ryan wouldn't have been so tenacious with his reguarding his opponent would've also gone for subs. As it was, he never got a chance to because he was being constantly getting stuck in guard.

Good match Ryan, is no arm triangles a dead zone for you? You looked confident in them

Good job repping 10p, you never quit, you went after him the whole time.

In the beginning you had a clear path to jiu claw but you didn't block his body, that must be in your DNA.

And the first time you had his arm in the guard, when you had your leg over his head, you shouldve focused on your deep hook, leg curls and a toss. That was your path to spider web, it couldve been all you needed for the win there.

Regardless I am very proud of you and honored to have a fearless brown belt putting his ass on the line like you did
