Phil I think you may be able to get to a lower weight div. This guy looked heavy for the division. You could out-tech him or start lifting weights like crazy to match strength for strength. You almost muddied him, and you had a Marcelo in. So you were getting to position, he was just strong. If in the lighter div, you could have easily sealed the deal. Another thing you could do is stand up and engage instead of letting him begin open guard passing on you.
All that being said, I know you got good tech, I've seen it for a while at HQ. I know you can seal the deal. Nice job brotha.

Great match Phil, I was rooting for you to finish it with that rubber guard bro... I see you almost had him, but he's pretty strong and power out of it. I think if you would have been able to put your elbow on his collar bone or anywhere close to it, he might not break out of it. What we been doing is totally focusing on getting that elbow dig in deep in that collar bone area and if they are really strong, just let go of hugging the knee for a split second and use that free arm to help totally break him down and then once the elbow is in place, go back to hugging the knee and curling everything tight. Then hold him there until you wear him down a little more. Also what we find with the muddy waters is to put that elbow on their forearm, focus on that spot and it will hurt like hell. You're intention of course is not to hurt the dude, but only to get his mind off of his escape plan or your next step. Not sure how this translate to upper level adult men, but it actually work on the kids...LOL

I think that you did an amazing job in that match... when wrestlers just want to play for points (especially without a gi) its a very tough thing to combat... at no point were you ever in any real danger.

I would recommend more sweep attempts from the guard, Full RG is a great place to hit the Pendulum/Flower Sweep. Also when you go for the hip bump, open up your legs and crab walk into the guy. Also... wrestlers love to get triangled

You are a freaking animal and its awesome to see you competing!

Same thing in my last match, lost sight of my game and focused on hitting RG. Good match Phill, cover those skinny legs with some tights.

It's so hard..like I want to say something about crackhead, but it won't be anything too detailed bc you can't see much from behind. Ok, so this is what it seems like happened, you tell me...RG, Crackhead, forearm wasn't tight enough to the collar bone, you tried to pump..went to lock his right shoulder and go for his arm, he postured, but the shoulder lock wasn't secure enough to finish the arm.

If that's what happened this is my 2 cents only bc crackhead & the pit stop is my game. Personally, when he postured I would have locked his left should bc it was already popped out. You were in crackhead, you just needed to tighten your arm down a little more, switch from crack head to double bagger, use the arm your double bagging with to secure the shoulder lock/pit stop on his left shoulder, as he postured up it would have been over..clear the head or stay in the shoulder lock position. Clench is essential. A lot of people when they lock the shoulder push down..or squeeze their legs together, but not both. You gotta do both. Also, cant stress deep hooking enough. Anyways, I hate giving advice. I hope this wasn't annoying to you! Thanks.

Thank you Eddie and everyone for supporting me and giving me your feedback. I really appreciate it. And to be honest, whether I win or lose I always have a blast competing in BJJ. This has been my first year doing all Expert/Advanced level comps and the grapplers I have gotten to roll so far have made all the matches challenging and interesting. The truth is that an opponent who wants to stall shouldn't be able to stall forever and I will continue to work on imposing my submission game. All the 10P guys out there competing and dominating with the system are a constant source of inspiration for me to work and push harder. Thank you all.
