ADCC New Weight Classes

ADCC's men's lightest weight class is currently -66 kgs (Under 145.5 lbs).
With the relatively new rise of competitors such as:

Bruno Malfacine
Wilson Reis
Takeya Mizugaki
Renan Barao
Urijah Faber
Dustin Kimura
Demetrious Johnson
Joseph Benavidez
Ian McCall
John Dodson

Do you think ADCC will adopt another, lighter, weight division?

If so, when?

They could be, possibly for the ADCC 2015. Gui Mendes, Mario Reis, Terra, Malfacine, Ary Farias, etc are all top players but can't do ADCC. A lighter weight class would suit them and there will be more known UFC talent by then to throw in as well. I don't know what the exact weight will be but the issue is that they have an 11 kg gap between each division. Next would be -55kg. Thats 121 lbs. I think that's too light for most of these guys unless 11 year olds start competing in ADCC. So the issue is it would mess up their set weight difference between each division. With their new weigh in rules, all those mma fighters would not make -55, even malfacine and terra would struggle to keep that weight. So it is possible, but depends on how they do it.

-55kg would be too small at like 121.2lbs, especially with same day weigh ins... Smallest adult males make 129lbs with a cut. It's at 145.5lbs now (66kg). I don't see it ever happening for that reason..

If love to see an under 59kg or so. Problem is now the 66kg gets smaller. I guess there's tons if great guys that walk around at 130 lbs. to justify it though. Then that brings us to this: what weight starts to get too small to win absolute at that level?

Some of the guys you mentioned would fit in fine at under 66kg like Faber and Wilson Reis, both of those guys have to walk around at over 145

Faber and Reis aren't real threats to consider. Reis is alright, but not top tier ADCC caliber. Touching on your point Scott, the -66kg division is pretty much already at a major disadvantage when it comes to the absolute. The talent pool is best arguably in their division and -77, but they lack any real size to go toe to toe with anyone. Who has gotten close to a medal in the absolute ever from that weight? When Marcelo was doing big things in the absolute they were calling his matches David vs Goliath and 'small man jiu jitsu' and he was a top dog at -77. So the question of a new weight class should have little to do with their chance of winning the absolute because its almost impossible for the guys at -66 to get close to even a semi final. Look at all the previous winners of the last 4. They've all been -88 kg or above: Galvao, Braulio, Drysdale, Roger Gracie

People don't see enough of Ciao Terra. Or Bruno Malfacine. Especially NoGi.
If ADCC hosted lighter weight classes, we would have a larger Wizard population xD

Caio Terra and Bruno Malfacine are both NoGi World Champions at -54.5 kg (120 lbs)

When I began training at age 16 in 2007, I was in better physical shape than I am now.
I walked around at 123 lbs. I ran track & field (sprinter) 4 days a week. Bench Pressed 225 lbs (1 rep max)
I stood and still stand at a 5 feet 4 inches tall.
I am currently preparing for a tournament in 1 weeks time. I'm competing at 140 lbs. (The lowest weight class offered)
Though right now I'm no heavier than 132 lbs. When I am fortunate enough to compete at 129.9 lbs (Grappler's Quest, NAGA)
I simply eat a liquid breakfast the day of weigh ins and easily make weight.

I'm not ADCC caliber. Not yet (;
Though as a teenager I had my eye on ADCC and to think that their lightest weight class is 145.5 lbs?
Justin Rader cuts from like 170 lbs?!
That's a 40 lb weight difference.

The last 2 times Marcelo Garcia was submitted.
It was by Braulio Estima in the Absolute Division.

Reis walks around pretty heavy for a man standing 5'2" to 5'3", when I last seen him at Grappler's Quest this past July he competed in the sub only tournament. Beat everyone. And he was competing in the 175 lb Division. Next lowest was the 155 lb division.

Faber and Reis aren't real threats to consider. Reis is alright, but not top tier ADCC caliber.

I think Reis would medal.
Hopefully he has a long and successful stay with the UFC though.
