When I slouch, look down, or particularly when I invert on to my neck from the guard, the symptoms are relieved. From what I have read this could be a brachial plexus injury or some type of disc problem in my cervical spine. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?
Hi Brandon, i read your message about a possible/ brachial plex injury and how sitting in good posture makes your hands hurt and shoulders hurt. I have the same issue post an accident five years back, and my shoulders hurt very badly each time I sit at a computer in good posture. Can you tell me if you found a solution and how?

When ever in get this type of similar problem of what I consider a nagging spine or back problem. I put a foam pipe insulation around the top bar of our weight rack in the gym and hang upside down curling my knees around the foam and the pipe just like a kid hanging upside down from the monkey bars at school.
Then just hang and twist relieving the pressure on my spine. I kinda make it a routine for several days in a row . And it helps! Last year I fucked it up so bad once that I could not even crawl out of bed in the morning and started doing this and I was back to normal rather quickly....I know every case is different.

I actually had to have surgery on my neck back in December. It was wild. I have a titanium plate and bolts in my neck now. I'm hoping to fully turn into the Wolverine at some point.

Remember when I injured my brachial plexus region? Actually, I don't think we knew each other then. Anyway, I kept getting on the mat, ignoring the numbness/pain. Next thing I knew was that my right tricep and right pectoral had atrophied away to nothing. I had to go through PT and lots of rest. I will still get weird "jolts" that will shoot down my arm if I move my head in a funny way.
Go get it checked out and be more careful getting out of bed.

Do you see a chiropractor? That would be MY first advice (A good one lol). It's weird how you get the numbness and pain when you get yourself into good posture. Pain and weakness in the neck can come from subluxation in the thoracic or lower parts in your spine. Crazy how the body has to work as a whole, and one little tweak somewhere else can lead to problems in another part of the body.
any other problems, anywhere else on you?

I get bad numbness and tingling when I sit down on the couch for awhile and my shoulders are rolled forward for awhile. I had a bad strength and conditioning program at high school that didn't develop my back and shoulders at the rate my chest and front shoulders were pushed. So Ive been working a long time on getting my posture back to where it needs to be. Its been a lot of work but its been paying off. If you got some spare time go to barnes and noble and check out the book "Becoming a supple leopard" by Dr. Kelly Starrett. Awesome book that covers a lot of stuff from injury prevention, posture, strength and conditioning stuff. Hope I could be some help and you can get something figured out.

You're in Bowling Green, KY? My best friend lives there. He has always wanted to do Jiu Jitsu but has never been living in a city where they offered a legit program until now.

Yeah, I'm a senior at Western Kentucky but I train at a legit school. My coach is Josh Johnson, two strip black belt under Luiz Palhares. Mainly a GI school but we have a No-gi class ran by students. if his looking to train tell him for sure to come check it out.

Wow! Did they tell you what the issue was?? Slipped disc or disc bulge and how did they detect it and at what levels? Wish you a good recovery.
