Advanced NoGi Old School to Short Choke (Video)

    Welcome to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

    This was an ABSOLUTE thrill!

Advanced NoGi Absolute Division Semi-Finals Match

I'm 129.9 lbs, my opponent weighed in at 160 lbs.
With my opponent having a background in wrestling I'll leave it to speculation on how much he may or may not have cut to compete in his division.

    Enjoy!

0:42 -- I felt strong pressure with the Electric Chair Submission, I probably could have finished from on my side, but during my application I realized I wasn't on my elbow. In my attempt to get to my elbow, I released pressure, and my opponent was able to position himself out the submission.

1:15 -- I could have held onto my opponent's ankle and came to the top to finish the sweep.

1:42 -- I'm preparing to go to Old School, but my opponent begins to attack my neck. I make defending my neck priority while passing on the opportunity to Old School. When my neck is safe. I go back for the Old School toe grab, but my opponent moves his toes away. I then transition to an Electric Chair Sweep attempt.

2:10 -- Super Stop fails because I failed to maintain a leg curl with my right leg on his trapped leg. Fortunately I was able to stop his pass and re-guard.

2:15 -- I take a mental note of his defense to my re-guard, as it will present itself as an opportunity later on in this match. (2:52)

2:20 -- I was recently teaching the Meathook and out of drilling I went there initially. Though the Meathook wasn't my best option in this situation. I then transitioned to Double Bagger where my opponent stayed defensive and postured out at the right time.

2:52 -- I take advantage of his passing tendencies, making him feel safe, understanding I have the position whenever I want it.

3:00 -- During my attempt to close the triangle. I'm confused at why humans don't have 3 hands. I underhook his leg to counter him standing. The other hand to the back of his head to assist on posture control. In hind-sight I debate if I should have used: Right Hand Cross Grip to his Right Hand; Left Hand on my Right Shin

Triangle Attempt -- It has been debated if I should have disengaged sooner in order to prevent him passing my guard. My argument is that I REALLY wanted to finish that triangle.

My determination to the Triangle Choke assisted my opponent in scoring 3 points for the guard pass.
    Current score 3 - 0

3:05 -- The entire time I was under North/South I should have been framing away with both hands on his hips in order to B Smith escape or take the back.

4:00 -- I over-defended/mis-defended my trapped arm. Allowing my opponent to gain the Crucifix Position.

4:40 -- Once I limp arm out I looked to work the Dog Fight, but I was over powered. Eventually working my way back into Lockdown

5:30 -- Finally back in Lockdown. Found a great opportunity to Old School. As I went to knee tap. My opponent released his Whizzer. I literally jumped at the opportunity to finish the fight xD

Short Choke -- While threatening with the Short Choke I felt as if I wasn't cutting off his near carotid artery. I used my head to pressure his head left to right in order to cut off blood supply from the near side artery. During his last efforts to escape I was able to gain a more threatening grip and pressure.

6:02 -- Smile because this is 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu xD

Questions, Comments, and Feedback are always welcome.

    Thanks, Everyone!

The video should be working now. Sorry about the wait.
Who knew it would take over 200 minutes to upload a 6 minute video to YouTube?

Good match, but I don't think beating a 160# is slaying giants lol

I find that being able to analyze tape can drastically increase your rate of progress.

Waiting for my technicians to check into the thread and give me ideas of what I need to look at based of this recent footage.

    Thanks.
Don't read too much into it, Brother.

This is 10thPlanetJJ.com, we're not talking much about slaying giants here.
    Just technique.

Though for sake of argument, that is similar to Mighty Mouse finishing a guy like Ben Henderson or Georges St. Pierre.

As Mighty Mouse walks around at 144 lbs. Cuts to 125 lbs. (I walk around at about 131 lbs).

So I'm 122lbs, I get being small & everything, but why the emphasis every time you post. Just curious.

    Royce Gracie.
(I'm sure this story is becoming redundant)

I began training in the martial arts because of the Royce Gracie fights.
    Specifically, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

    Then came Marcelo Garcia, inspiring.

The history of a little man name Hélio Gracie.

Today there are names like Ciao Terra.

    It's tradition.
With my family learning this beautiful art, it is examples of people like this that will give them the will to fight out of a situation where they could potentially be beaten, raped, or murdered.

Wouldn't you want to be a source of inspiration to your family?
I'm sure you are, I'm sure you will continue to be.
I've seen you finish large competitors.
    You're a "Giant Slayer"!
