My matches from NAGA U.S. Nationals (St. Louis) (Feedback Appreciated)

Just wanted to post my matches from the NAGA U.S. National last month. It was an awesome experience for me and I was lucky enough to meet some of the 10th Planet Beaumont crew. Couldn't have been happier that I participated in the event.

I ended up taking gold in my division (Novice 140-149). I look forward to moving up to beginner skill level in my next competition. This was my 2nd NAGA event. My first NAGA event, I lost in the finals during the overtime round. It felt good to get another shot in the finals.

The game plan for all my matches during Nationals was to pull guard and work my butterfly sweeps. Any feedback at all (positive / negative) is very much appreciated. 10P4L

Thanks man! I watch Marcelo x-guard videos on youtube all day at work. My sweep was rough but it worked out. I didn't really expect him to try to stay standing, I just went to it out of instinct.

Nice! It was great meeting you, to bad I didn't get to see these in person. As a general rule, the more "entangled" a position is, the less of a hurry you should be in. For example, in X-guard, focus way more on staying tight and following his momentum to top. I would try and slow things down in general too, your only huge mistakes came when you got a little to scrambley. Really great job though!!! Where do you train again? Your coaches used some 10th planet terminology like "skydive". Again excellent job man!

It was a pleasure to meet you as well! Thank you much for the advice. I would agree that I need to slow myself down while out there. I feel like there were moments in both matches in which I felt my opponents take a big deep breath. I wanted to pursue in that moment of weakness, but I could have done it in a much more controlled manner.

I currently attend a Gracie Barra gym in north east Arkansas. I believe the closest moon or hotbox would be St. Louis or Poplar Bluff, both are quite a drive. I will always be ronin at heart and repping the 10th planet lifestyle.

Great butterfly sweeps bro! Effortless haha.

Try and work on staying really heavy in side control. He should not be able to push you off that easily. A drill i like is transitioning into different side control positions with your hands behind your back, staying as heavy as possible.
